Hi from the shaky isles

Postby stillsucker » Tue Nov 04, 2014 1:55 pm

Been lurking for a while and picking up a few tips along the way. Been stilling for 9-10 years . Started with a Still Spirits pot still and then got left a Still Spirits Reflux when a mate died. Bought a Spirits Unlimited Euro 30l Still about 12 months ago and am using that at the moment. I have detuned the old reflux to use for any stripping runs I want to do. I make gin and bourbon mainly with neutral and flavourings. I blend my bourbon flavourings and add some other stuff and let it sit for a month or two. Come out OK but always looking to improve.

Welcome. You have come to the right place to improve.

Head to the newbies section and take a look. Then over to the tried and proven recipes section, there are some great simple sugarhead/grain based recipes there. Macs Bourbon knock off is a beauty as is the classic UJSM. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks for the welcome guys. I have had a look around the site and I already have a TPW working away like a good un. Should be another week or so. Will let you know how it turns out. I have been useing turbos :scared-eek: up to now and didn't know any better. With the pot still I double distilled and then double filtered (reflux carbon and then Z filter) Have always taken cuts so the product wasn't too bad. A lot of mucking about and cost; so we will see how this wash turns out.

hey stillsucker welcome,

you would be better off doing one of the corn, whisky or weetbix wash's through the pot still, TPW is generally used for neutrals through a reflux rig ;-)
