Saying hello

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Saying hello

Postby Monksan » Sun Dec 14, 2014 1:32 pm

This will probably be the last time you hear from me for several weeks as I wade through mountains of helpful information so, hello from Sydney :-)

I don't count the 5 gallons of Elderflower champagne I once made (and started drinking after a month... what an eye-opener that was) as consistent with best practice so, I am taking this first step in what I hope to be a fruitful relationship. I've decided that the best way to start is how I hope to progress - I'm going to build rather than buy my first piece and hope to make it so that it can be both a reflux and a pot. Not looking to go beyond a 25L cook - something small with both form and function.

I'll probably get it wrong but that's how I learn. Thanks in advance for all your wisdom and encouragement.

Welcome mate.

A 25L boiler is really about as small as you want to go... You'll work out why when you learn about cuts etc etc.

Thanks Zak, 25L is my minimum then. My goal will be quality over quantity and I have a lifetime of learning ahead; once I've read more on cuts etc I'm sure I'll be looking at the 40L pot ;-)

Cheers

Hi Monksan welcome aboard, if you are capable of building your first still do just that, we all love the pics here. :D

And you will soon learn 50 ltr is pretty much the standard home built boiler here and for good reason, they are just the ideal sized, easily obtained and utilized stainless steel vessels around. enjoy :handgestures-thumbupleft:
