Do you need bottles?

Postby choppy » Fri Jul 25, 2014 9:34 pm

I found this place that sells bottles direct to public. I'll be placing an order next week.

The first bottle I asked about only came by the pallet.

But this bottle below comes in 10 packs with a minimum order of $75 (plus postage)

The bottles work out at about $1.30 each including the BVS closure (plus postage).

visit www.plasdene.com.au and the bottle I am referring to is 750ml Flint BVS bottle

From their home page choose wine bottles-vie online catalogue-claret-australian-BVS, make sure you choose the 750ml as they also come in 375ml

This it? http://www.plasdene.com.au/category/pro ... 750-239-FL

Looks good but the pushed in bottom puts me off for storing spirit

I didn't even consider the dimpled base. I figured if they keep wine in them they'd work for hooch too.

I'll still get some and use them for the girlie brews I do for my misses and her friends. I'll keep my 1.125's for my dark spirits.

And thanks for making it easier with that link - I shoulda thought of that myself.

Anyway, back to the footy...

Why is the dimple in the bottom a bad thing?

Ever bought a bottle of bourbon or rum with a dimple in it?

No reason why you can't store spirit in it, but when you're going to the trouble of buying bottles, why not get ones that suit?

I get mine from here. http://www.galaimports.biz

Delivery isn't too expensive when I have bought a couple of cartons at a time.

I have bought the pharmacy bottles (250 & 500 mL) and the clock face ones when they were on special.

Choppy, I bought 200 of them, :) black screw tops + I got black top cork stoppers for them as well. I think the dimple (punted bottom) look good to be honest, I cant find the picture but when Doc posted his Vodka I thought it was sophisticated. And good value.

Good one Peter.

My brother is a bar manager, which you would expect to be a good place to get spirit bottles.

But he only goes through about 2 bottles of spirits a week as most people drink pre mix spirits these days. plus it's bit of a yuppy pub.

But what he is getting me is clear wine bottles. I soak them for an hour or so and then scrape off the labels, clean off any residue, wash them in bottle wash and they come up a treat. Keeps me entertained while the still is running.

I'm gunna keep doing this for a while and when I get a few hundred I'll throw an ad on here and flog them off cheap. Postage will be the killer, but anyone in the Newcastle area might be interested.

Touche!

I still think whiskey belongs in undimpled, square bottles... Rum goes in undimpled round bottles :handgestures-thumbupleft:
