Hey guys where do you get your collection jars from? I seen some at coles 500ml preserving jars $3 each what do you think?

They're too expensive.
You can use old jars from things you use in the kitchen, get family and friends to collect them for you.
Or empty stubbies
Or empty jars from tpw tomato paste
I bought mason jars from big W, can't remember exactly what they cost but it was maybe $24 for 12?
In hindsight I should have saved up jars and kept my $48.00

+1 on stubbies, what makes them the best is you get to drink the beer first :handgestures-thumbupleft: just make sure you get clear bottles not brown ones.

Collecting aioli jars here, I did use empty whisky bottles until I had enough jars saved up

Packs of 12 like $6 @ target, 300mls. Local junk/$2/reject shop should have em too.

+1 tomato paste jars. @ $1.25-$1.35 they the absolute cheapest jars I could find. ALDI/home brand/Coles they are all about the same price. I just bought a couple every week untill I thought I had enough. Soak them overnight in some sodium perc/napisan and the labels fall off.

If you like Moccona coffee, the jars work great.
They pour great and you just pull the plastic from the lid so you can use those as well.
The wide mouth breathes well and fits Harris coffee filter papers perfectly.

The 300ml(odd) Schweppes soft drink bottles work for me...soda/lemonade...6 packs...get em on special at the supermarket.

Thats what I use also.

But I dont drink THAT much coffee. So I bought a few jars from the St VInnies shop. They sell em for about 0.50c each but when you go in and ask for 2 dozen they give you a discount :handgestures-thumbupleft:

As a point of interest, has anyone noticed if there is any change to airing out whether you use a jar with a big open top vs a bottle with a narrow open top? (besides the amount of bugs you collect if you don't cover them up :)) )

I just got some of these they hold 2.8 litres = 4 x 700ml from KMart they have a cork top $5 each

What can I say, they work well for me. I tend to just pour them quickly into a funneled demi or straight into a pyrex measuring jug.

Now my pyrex jug is a bitch to pour from. Pour too fast and it goes everywhere.
Anyone know where to get a glass measuring jug that pours well?

I just use the tomato paste jars from tpw. Also anything that comes in glass I use except for crushed garlic can't seem to get that smell out of the jar.
I wash them really well in hot soapy water, rinse then give them a soak in hot tap water for a while and the label comes off pretty easily. Let them dry then I measure out 200ml of water pour into jar and use a Nikko pen and mark the jar at the water level. It's a bit of a process I know but this way I can just grab 5 jars and I know I have 1 litre of product.

Got mine from red dot. $6 for 6x500ml jars. Sounds expensive but for $48 you've got enough jars for the largest runs and short of breakages should be a once of expense. For small runs just half fill em. Lids were crap but dont need to seal perfectly as I don't store in them. Collect cuts from run, air under a doubled over mosquito net for the night then sort into 2 liter glass flagons.

500ml lab beakers from Westlab. I think they worked out at $2 each or thereabouts.

Moccona coffee jars are very popular and the paper label is easy to remove without soaking in water.
Unfortunately when the label is removed two or three blobs of soft glue remains and it is a pain to remove without some form of solvent.

To remove the glue easily without solvents etc, l discovered if you put the Moccona jar in the freezer (I left it in over night, though I'm sure it would freeze much quicker) you can apply a flat edged knife to the frozen glue and it will come away in one blob.... too easy.

I suggest you use gloves when using the knife.
