Had some mixed experiences around the traps, mainly been chasing bigger stuff as it seems harder to get. The week or two before Christmas is the prime time as all the plumbers cash in what they have for their end of year bonus or piss up

Geebung - generally dont deal to public, but went in on a sat and got a bunch of 4" veiga'd together $10/kg, worth a shot if the right guy is there?

Caboolture recyclers- $10/kg, been 2 times, First time got 2x70cm legnths of 2" and 126cm of 4" 6kgs - plenty of smaller stuff inc 2 1/2 and a few shorter bits of 4", all of which was gone when i visited 2 weeks later - had phoned ahead the sat b4 and they had another 196cm of 4" that they held for me - 9kgs, woot! even on the second visit i would have been able to get all the sub 1" you would need

Gympie Scrap - $8/kg been 3 times, small stuff only so far

United Murarrie - been once forgot to ask price :angry-banghead: didnt find anything that day, but they are huge - not much in the way of clean copper on the day

Recycal Murarrie - Effing Pirates, So i go in on a monday, cop a younger guy with tats, takes me around to a bin full of stuff you could have made 100 stills with, most of it clean, got any 4" or 6" i say, he thinks, say yes but is under a heap of stuff in another bin - will be processing all of thier copper for the next couple of days, can pull it aside for me, $8 a kg, So im pretty happy at this point and leave my number and written list of what i was after, - speccified any 1m+ of 2"& 4" and any 6" over a foot, didnt grab anything, was comming back. No Phone call, called them sat, get a different guy, ah yep, theres a couple a large pieces pulled aside for me, told him when id be there (a week later). Called up that day to make sure - got "i was about to throw that back in", grumble... so i get there and they have got 2 legnths of 65mm there for me ffs... check their current incomming bin and look, theres a piece, 2m+ of 4", it seemed a heavier gauge than the first 126cm piece though and came in at 10kg, i thought about it and said buggerit tis cheap enough - and then the (boss) guy said $120, quick to and fro, it was still screw you hippie, I knew i still had the long piece at Cabo so i walked away.. That way yesterday, its most likely still there if anyone is in desperate need

Fittings - havent found any retail prices better than these guys (seems to compare with evil bay well enough), down south but free shipping on over $100 egs 1" 90 bend $1.80 tee $3 end cap $1.80 2" 90 bend $6 tee $8.50 end cap $4 80mm 90 bend $18 tee $21 end cap $9 4" 90 bend $32 tee $32 end cap $12 4x2 reducer $12 2x1 reducer $3.30

Anyone got a better source? Havent hit my plumber mate up for pricing yet, but dont want to screw him around and want a precise order first - in the planning/gathering stage atm :)

I think you missed a good thing with the 2m bit of 4"...
But if they were being difficult that always sours it.
Better than my local scrappy, have been in 3 times within 2 months (after payday), each time asking about bigger copper (2-4"), left contact details each time and im after any length they get, cause apparently they don't get much.
Mainly to have it to play with rather than need it.
The last time as i was walking in i saw them crushing it, a nice bit of, looked like new, 4" probably 500-600mm long...
When i spoke to the guy he says " sorry mate didn't know you were coming in or i would have saved it, this only came in this morning..."
Sigh...
I think that if i ever get anything from there i will need to just hang out in there all day and see what come in, cause apparently they chop and squash all copper they get.

Must be worried about cops seizing stolen copper they bought or something.

Also found out that if you sell scrap to them (any scrappy) it is no longer legal for them to give you cash, must go into a bank account (as of march last year).
If you sell it to them while wearing a work shirt or work ute it has to go into an account linked to that company and an ABN.
They face $10,000 fine and loss of merchant licence if caught not doing the right thing.
So go and sell scrap in a shirt with no logo in your personal car and it can goto your account.

Have you considered leaving an empty 6 pack of (a good) beer with a list of what you want attached for their lunch room?
Visual reminders generally help lols

I've found United murrarie to be pretty helpful especially when you leave a bottle of rum with the promise of another when my list gets filled! They get lots of larger diameter stuff from time to time.

Possibly in the market for some more 4". 300 mm is probably all I'd need. Maybe.
