Inert RANT!
Ok, so stopped passed Reece Plumbing in Scoresby
Asked for 2x 3" (80mm) copper joiners.....
The guys eyes lit up like fireworks when I said I didn't have an account.
"That will be $42 mate......"
I looked at him, turned around and left.
Went to Plumbers Co-op (
http://www.pscoop.com.au/newweb/Branch.phpVery different attitude, said no problem if you dont have an account.
$22 for the same 2 joiners I wanted.
I really feel like wasting some of their time at reece next week.... REVENGE!
...End rant

That is no different to any electrical or auto wholesaler in australia. They run on a tight margin and your prices are based on the amount of bussiness you give them.

Just open yourself a cash account at Reece, you don't need to be a plumber, they will do it for anyone, (they did it for me) you still pay by cash like a normal sale but you get trade prices. :-D :-D :-D

Walk in prices elsewhere are still better then Reece trade prices, and why should you need to give out your personal details just to get ripped off anyway? :)) :)) :))

I shop at reece because i know i pay a premium for service.
The local guys at my store are streets ahead of the competition as far as stock and service. They will also match prices if you ask them. ;-)

Well rang around for prices today for 2" copper, only places that sell by the meter is reece and eagles.
Eagles : $66.97pm
Reece: $47.52pm
co-op: $120 for 3m (only sell 3 or 6m)
all none trade but plumber mate has a account at eagles and we have a account at reece at work so might see if I can use there account and pay cash.
went to the scrap yard they had 3", 2.5" but was thin walled and a bit of 1.5 and heaps of 1" so not really what I want but prob could run 1" for condenser but it will prob be a waste.

Got a quote from tradelink plumbing for 2" the other day $125 a metre. Ended up getting it nearly next door at port melbourne scrap dealer for $20 for a metre and a half. Just needed to go in a few times to find a bit the right length.

I've found Samios Plumbing supplies in Osborne Park are good too - been there a few times and they have given the normal retail price straight up each time - to me walking in in office clothes looking exactly opposite to a plumber.
But i don't think you can go in and wander round like Parkwood hardware.
Reece or tradelink guys look up the price and you can see in their faces immediately doubling it.

As I just mentioned in another thread, I learnt this lesson the hard way when I first started building over a year ago.
I bought pipe and a lot of fittings there, as I was unaware of where else to obtain the gear.
I remember particularly getting 2x 3" 90 degree bends for something like $80 each, and yes I paid it because I didn't know any better... :angry-banghead:
I remember looking up the Plumbers' Supplies Co-op and it said about having to become a member, so I figured it was just for plumbers. However someone said on this thread that they will sell to non-members, so i'll be giving them a go next time I build.
The best part about these forums is the dissemination of information :handgestures-thumbupleft:
