grain in SA

Postby woodduck » Fri Jun 27, 2014 9:18 pm

Hi lads,
I'm only new at this still'n stuff and I'm trying to find out where the best places in SA are to buy bulk maltad barley and especially rye for the Jack's I want to make. The home brew joints I've been to only sell barley in small bags and I can only find rye in health food shops in 500g. Just wondering if anyone could help me out I'd be real appreciative. Also if someone knew where to get sheets of cork for gaskets from that would be great.
Cheers boys.

Beer belly at prospect is really good for grains, I'm not sure about rye though. It is a really good shop, it's not really like your normal home brew shops.

Hello Wood,

Go see Amanda at beer belly...

The one to use is malted its a nice flavour...unmalted plain makes a very dull low flavour drop.

Hi thanks guys. Hey bt1 if it's a rye malt does that mean I should treat it the same as the barley malt when I'm making the mash? Eg I've been putting my rye in at around 76 deg and my barley ar 66.
