Good molasses in brisbane

Postby ekul » Sat Jan 17, 2015 9:50 am

Hi all,

I had a run of batches that didnt ferment out properly and resulted in a very tailsy rum. However last time I went to Brookfield produce the guy told me that it would take a while because they were just changing the tanks. Got the molasses back home, made up a batch thining if it fails it would be the last one till next cane crushing season. Fermented out beautifully so im back to making nice rum again.

So if you've been getting shitty molasses in brisbane head over to brookfield produce, their current batch ofmolasses is great.

I should mention, its not that cheap though. Its $22 for 20L (current guy fills it to about 22L but generally its 20L). But if you've been getting shitty molasses like I have for the last couple months its worth the extra couple of dollars

Really!?! last time i got some in gympie i paid $12.50 per 20L drum. I've heard in some places around bris you can get it for 50c/L but you have to get a 200L drum full and unfortunately they dont let you take in 10x 20L drums. I thought $1/L was expensive , i guess its not so bad then

i know i'm reviving a bit of an old thread but better that than making a new one

i'm looking for good molasses in brisbane
at the moment i'm new to molasses wash's i've read mac's rum thread 109 pages and most of the molasses bulk buy and info threads

so i live on the northside of brisbane near chermside and was wondering is there anyone who's in brisbane that knows the best place to buy molasses from

i've done 3 gens of washs from the burpengary produce store and so far havent run into any problems i've only been buying from them in they're pre packaged milk bottles and atm they're prices have varied up and down which im not a fan of (if i end up liking the end product from them i will enquire about bulk)

i'd like to look into brendales store as its closer to home and i read some one said they are 1$-1L

any other info or tips you could give me to help me source my molasses would be great too

I usually get mine from Brendale too mate.
Although I haven't done a rum in over a year, it turned out very good.
I live just up the road from Chermside btw

Sprengers produce is good quality but I generally take a drive to Maryborough these days same quality just cheaper. @$90 for 200L it's worth the drive if I buy 2 :laughing-rolling:

Twice a yr, with a Ute. It's a bit of a struggle to get them out of the ute but I manage.
I use open top blue drums or the olive drums and use a 20L bucket which is a bit messy but nothing a hose doesn't fix.

I usually go for a drive to Capalaba produce and then I can stop by 5star also :handgestures-thumbupleft:

My rum always turned out alright.

Filling up 200L would be awesome. But would be too heavy to get off the ute.
