Rum Bottles

Postby warramungas » Mon Oct 19, 2015 1:23 pm

Hi.
Fairly new (intro) in newbies section) but thought I'd post this here to see if anyone knew the whereabouts of the bottles I'm looking for. My mothers bday is in about 6 months so was hoping to make her some nice rum and bottle it pirate style (corked, waxed, etc). I want to use some nice bottles but they are worth a bomb on ebay.

Anybody seen anything similar anywhere?? I've been hunting everywhere. Port bottles would probably do but need big quantities for glass bottle supplier.
Cheers,
warra

Thanks for the advice. I've been paying salvos, good sammys and the like visits but have yet to see anything suitable. Really wanted half a dozen matching'ish bottles. Galway pipe bottles look good but its been years since I used to smash that stuff and only have one left.

Wondering if you could repurpose some other type of bottle?
This is just an image from the net but look like olive oil bottles I've seen before?

Thank rowey and doubleuj but gala don't have anything suitable and I don't really want to use pottery. Too heavy for her to handle with her arthritis or carry on the plane. And I also want to cork them undertaker. Screw tops can leak but corked and waxed not only wont leak but also looks fantastic.
There was a 300 ml on gala but that's like one glass to my mum. :-D She'd need a lot of em.

Yes but minimum purchase and square bottles not really rum 'style'. Tried plasdene, cospack and glass bottles direct.
I'll keep looking.
Cheers.

Close but no cork. Plasdene do have like a $50 minimum. Guess I could pick up some of their smaller 500 ml bottles and fill the rest ofbthe 50 with some others that take my fancy. They do have some nice corked bottles there.

I guess so. Not under pressure so they just need to seal.
Thanks for all your help people and if anyone spots an onion bottle (my first choice) please let me know.

You could always make one.
I know local pottery schools only too happy to help you make a one off.

No idea where I got it from, but it may have contained a chocolate liquer once. Not sure if you can read it but the bottle has "Fine Old Wines", and "Est 1888", molded into the front with a spot for the label to stick. It holds 750ml and is cork stopper, (lost). 20 cm high and 11 cm wide.

Just another lead maybe.

I'm thinking this bottle is a port, can't remember which one as it would have been about 25 years since I last had it. I think the top of the bottle was sealed with red wax.

Any markings on it that might identify it?
I might go down the route of buying a couple of bottles just to put in decanters. It would be terrible to leave it in there too long though. :-D
