Hi all,

Can anyone please possibly point me in the direction of a supplier with a good range and quality of O rings?

I'm trying to locate a smaller version of the O ring I use for the airlock on the fermenters (see pics).

The fermenter O ring is about 9mm ID (slot OD is 12mm) to suit a 13mm hole. The size I'm chasing is for a 6mm hole so the slot OD would be about 5mm is guess, which should allow for a little bit of 'squeeze' when I insert the digital thermometer. My last one has finally deteriorated after a couple of years without use and needs replacing, temp monitoring without it is a bit difficult with the thermometer that I have.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I found useing a rubber or silicon bung with a hole ,worked well for me ,in that situation,as another option.A lot of bungs do not come with holes or they may be the wrong size holes ,I get a piece of thin walled tube slightly smaller than the hole size required ,sharpen the end and push it thru with a little detergent.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

For the still mate, the digital pin thermometer sits at the top of the column.

Well in that case I would recommend useing only silicone, you mentioned fermenters for wich the rubber would be OK,heat and high ABV spirit will deteriate rubber and possibly contaminate ya spirit, not a good thing.cheers hillzabilly :angry-banghead:

Everybody has an "acceptable risk level" of what they determine safe.

I personally like to be the safest I can if I am going to let my mates and family drink my hooch ;-)

The best would be EPDM or pure silicone.
You could use come silicone baking sheet if you want but try not to expose the spirit to the cut edge to stop the possibility of the fillers leeching into your spirit.
Why are you storing 50%?

Proper 100% silicone won't have fillers, but some unscrupulous manufacturers will lie about it.
To check, grab a piece and twist it between your hands like an Indian burn, if it goes white-ish then it's got fillers.
I've bought 100%silocone mats that did this after this trick was pointed out to me.
Tried it on the wife's good quality (Tupperware) mat, it stayed the true colour.
Now just have to get away with stealing it from the kitchen..

G'Day

Thanks its for my SS filter set up I have made I know I don't need to filter the TPW but I have it from when I was still using the other yeast so I still filter only takes a day. Well it is more around the 40-45% for the chip and and stuff.
I have heard to use teflon tape as well ?
Thanks for the answers or right direction I was using the plumpers glue for drinking.
