Stalled Ale

Postby maddogpearse » Mon Jul 10, 2017 7:04 pm

I ran out of beer and time, so I threw down a k&k last night.
Stupidly I used the yeast under the cap. Stupidlier I didn't even hydrate it or anything, just pitched it on top. (Yeah yeah I know, but rough!)
Anyway (surprise surprise) there's no action. So I did the only thing any self respecting distiller could think to do in such an emergency and threw in some lowans!
My question is this... what does bakers yeast taste like in beer? Should I bottle it, or add a couple of kg of sugar then distill it?

It will still make beer, no problem there. It's the taste that might be somewhat questionable...
What's a K&K btw?

Ah, haven't heard that term before. Never had much luck (read - cans are shit) making a brew that I liked, so built myself an all grain set up. Best beer ever IMHO. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

A Scottish mate of mine swears by bakers yeast for making beer, I'm not a beer drinker so I cant comment on the taste, he's been doing it for 30y or so maybe it will work

Haha yeah yeah yeah I know! I make all grain beer too, but it takes near half a day to make a wort and times been poor of late. I was planning on dry hopping the shit out of it. I've had reasonable results doing that in my early beer brewing days.
Anyway....unless anyone else has got something to add, I guess I'll bottle it. Never know I might make something wonderful. If not, I'll strip it and run with a whiskey wash some other time.

you can always put a shot of green ginger wine in each pot if it tastes like crap.

i'd still bottle it and at least try it. its only an hour of your life wasted if its crap.
