Looking great mate but is the rc sealed somehow at its base? If not couldn’t the vapour bypass it up the gap between the outer wall and the inner wall of the column?

I don't think vapor will go up the gap between the rc and the colomn wall because it’s not very wide, 1-2mm or so. That gap will act no different to the tubes in the rc it self, the cool water will condence any vapor that trys to get up the side :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Guess the outside of your RC would also be cool so that makes sense.

How do you get it to ‘flow’ into the PC?

Is the RC shorter terminating below the ‘T’?!?

You got it :handgestures-thumbupleft: the rc sits below the branch off to the pc so the same as a blockhead.

Forgive the idiot question, but do you need to ‘trap’ or ‘guide’ the steam into the branch-off or does it go there by the build up of the steam (pressure how ever low)?

Will always flow through lowest pressure path :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Woody, I bloody love this design. Basically there's 2 stills I ever want, a pot, and a 4 plater. You can undo one clamp, pull the guts out and bobs ya mothers brother, a pot still! Bloody genious. And bloody rippin craftsmanship as usual. Keep it up dude.

Thanks mate but I can tell ya now there's gonna have to be something pretty wrong with the plates before I ever pull that tree out again, it wasn't real easy getting her in there. I even had to use a jack to pull it through it was that bloody tight but yet there were still gaps around the plate, not big and shouldn't cause a problem but gaps none the less. I think the tightness is caused once all the plates are joined to the tree and if they're not perfectly aligned and level they catch as they are pushed through. The plates on their own slide in quite easily but get tighter and tighter as more plates get pushed in.

You can use a bubbler as a pot without taking the plates out if needed, just don't use your rc, I've stripped like that before and works pretty well. You'll get a bit of passive reflux to start with but not too bad.

Did you chuck the plate tree in the freezer to shrink it down a little before squeezing it in the column?

Yeah, I've used my bubbler as a pot to strip with, but it's just way too bloody slow. I've got single 2" caps with 1 1/2" risers, so it basically makes it a 1 1/2" pot still. So I run a 3" pot still to strip washes now.
Why does your Plate tree need to be so tight? Any vapour that ran up the side could be compensated for by refluxing more couldn't it to keep your output abv right?

Yer I guess your right but I'm worried the caps won't work properly if too much vapor is bypassing up the sides. I've never used a plate tree or seen one so I only went off what I've read in the bubbler build section so I'm winging it a bit. They say the plates should be a squeaky fit, which they are but once joined together they become tighter.

Unfortunately I haven't done much more lately, been busy with work and kids finishing school and what not but I did receive a package from the Mac's today with a few goodies in it. Thanks Mr& Mrs Mac, you've excelled once again :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You don't quite get just how big 6" is until you see the clamps, they are HUGE.
