It'll be filled up with other stuff too but I'll plan it so I'm able to use it for stilling with its own dedicated space. And not like the cramped space in behind my boat like at the old house.

I added 2" sight glasses and a 2" fill port at the bottom of the column.

May I ask why did you add the SG ?

Still and shed looking good db. Once you've got it all set up it'll work well I bet.
I'd give my eye teeth for a dedicated stilling space with water and power no matter the size. So sick of setting up in the laundry and getting the "I've got washing to do!' statement halfway through the setup process.
Anybody got a spare 9x12 shed lying around? :))
Went visiting friends at Caversham estate near me with all new housing development. Nice houses but no room for a decent shed out the back of any of them. Stacked in as tight as they can get them. My 900+ squares looks ginormous compared.

I'm feeling your pain warra.... i get that too and "can you take all your stuff off the freezer or there won't be any tea" :laughing-rolling:
The old place we were in had a massive laundry, not so lucky with the new place.. so I'm going backwards really.

Im slowly bringing the other half around to the idea of an aircraft hanger, I think she may want me to live in it alone though.....

It's a plated column, while it's possible to run them blind it's easier with sight glasses. I didn't put sight glasses on originally because my 2" bubbler didn't have them and I wanted to get my 4" bubbler up and running asap, plus it kept costs down initially.

That's what I was contending with a few weeks back... Now I've gotta get electricity installed and build a new bench and shelving dedicated for distilling. Looking forward to having it done :D
Electricity is a must, thinking of ways to plumb in some drainage and tap into the house sewerage... Storm water would be easy but not a fan of the stinky boiler contents running out onto the street.

Yeah i walk past where i tip my boiler contents every time i go over to the sheds from the house. I'm still amazed how long the smell of wash remnants hangs around that spot.

Yep, I tipped the boiler out onto the gravel at the side of my partner's house once and the stench stayed there for months. I was bucketing it into the toilet after that.

Eve has new bits!
15605857403590.jpg

Well, one new bit.

It's a packed section, 300 mm long. I went for this size as it's the largest piece of 4" copper that I've got.

I've given it a clean up (and I'm not going to be getting it any shinier) and a citric acid soak. Vinegar and sacrificial runs tomorrow followed by the maiden run with 40 L of weetbix wash that's sitting ready to go.

I'll fill it with stainless scrubbers from bunnings.

Thanks to Andrew at 5star for the clamp and gasket :handgestures-thumbupleft:

More pics to come :D

Nice job db... should do the trick! :handgestures-thumbupleft:
How much longer would you have gone if you had the copper?
The norm is about 500mm isn't it?

I was hoping for 500 mm, only just cause that's what lots of people say you need, and I have a plan to get close to that with an inline gin head (with a side drain) that can also double as a packed section (with interchangeable plates). But yeah I didn't have a single piece of copper big enough for 500 mm. Either way I recon it will do the trick.

Gin head to come later on.

I love this idea! Are you still doing this? How is it working for you??

I have 1 submersible pump that I want to use to supply the cooling water to both condensers and use a valve (was thinking needle valve) to restrict the flow to the RC... but with my new power controller, I may not need a valve at all as 2 x 2400 elements can overpower my RC...?!?

Yep but I simplified it so it's not so bulky and less connectors, less places for leaks. Not that leaks are an issue, but I figured simple is better.

I'm currently using a 12v bilge pump that I'm going to use in my boat (one day I'll install it ) and I'm running it off one of the transformers that I run my radiator fans from. The pond pump in the old photo broke but I managed to repair it.

Here's a close up of the connectors, from the garden irrigation aisle of the big green shed.

$2.55 each. Cheap as chips.

That looks like you’ve removed the valve!?!?
