Where can I get pyrex sight glass tubes. Do most people use the gas lantern glass lenses or is there somewhere I can get thicker walled ones.

I got mine from Mac at 5star but I'm unsure if he has any left. Maybe flick them an email and ask.

Ive asked a couple of local gass suppliers lately, and they are mucho expensivo. 88 bucks from one for 100mm is 5mm borosilicate. 125 from another for 2mm wall 105 od glass. Thats 125mm long with ground and flame polished ends. By compariso. 5star was listed at 30 bucks. I can get a 1.5m length of the 2mm wall 105OD borosilucate for 220 bucks. Im considering trying to cut them myself.

I am seriously considering buying a 1.5m length of 5mm walled 100mm borosilicate and cutting it to length, but obviously there will be way too many for me. Factoring in approx 1mm loss per cut should get 14 out of it, IF i don't break any. I am still researching, so I will let you know if I go ahead. An indication as to interest would be good though.

Out of interest how would you cut it?

I see pipe cutter similar to a copper pipe cutter. Guessing it uses a diamond. Betting a 4 inch one would be expensive.

I worked as a glazier for a while, I found cutting Pyrex is near impossible. But then again technology has moved on a lot since I was in the trade.

Hmm could be a problem. I have never been successful when it comes to glass if it's score an snap or trying to drill it. Was wondering if Borosilicate was any different..

There are ways, I've tried some but have not been successful. Score and snap only works for glass sheet or small diameter tube. Most methods seem to involve scoring and applying a large amount of heat so it expands and cracks along the score. There are some YouTube videos of various methods. Let us know how you go. Just make sure you play it safe with whatever you try.

Also, I've bought a couple of cheap cutting wheels (one from the big green shed, another from a Chinese website) and they were both rubbish. I found a cheap router bit (that I had no intention of ever using) did a better job of scoring borosilicate glass.

I looked into 1.5 metre lengths too. But the vest idea i had was a plate tree inside the tube and leave it full length. Theres a build around here where someone did it with a 3 inch length of glass and it looks amazing.
