PC is soaking in vinegar.

Drilled the first hole for the port windows but blunt the hole saw starting the second one... :violence-stickwhack:

Stainless is hard as hell, you'll want a good hole saw, very slow speed and plenty of lube

And pressure.
Slow rpm, lots of lube and plently of pressure.

If you let it rub it will work harden.

300 x 15 ÷ hole saw diameter = RPM

300 x 15 ÷ 76 = 59rpm
Slower is ok but faster will blunten the cutter.

Thanks for the info. I was drilling way to fast then.

A bit more progress today...

Finished drilling the port holes in the 4 stainless sections.







A quick mock up...

Also drilled the holes in the bubble plates



then cut the risers to size



Then drilled the holes in the tops of all the risers (each riser has 8 x 3mm holes)



I've cut the downcomers ready to go in, just have to hunt down or make some cups for the bottom of them.

Still have to cut the slots in the caps, then solder the risers to the caps then to the plates;

There's a few different techniques for cutting the slots, (there's a few threads around just can't find them at the minute). I put my 4" grinder securely and i mean securely in my wise and held my caps and gently pushed them into the blade, it’s not as scary as it sounds just remember the blade will try flick them out so don't stand down wind and WATCH your fingers.

Thanks bloke. I built a hinged stand to hold the angle grinder to cut pipe, so I could use that. The angle grinder option would make it a quicker and far easier job. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hey I noticed that DB1979 has copper packing in his RC tubes, is this necessary if I just want to run a whiskey thru and keep the flavour?

The packing in his rc would be to help transfer the cooling not for reflux

On another note, I've ordered some seals and a temp gauge from 5 star. Does the temp gauge go above the plate sections, before or after the RC?

Not any real need for a temp gauge on a bubbler, id put it on your boiler top. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yep, my RC wasn't very efficient and the addition of copper scrubbers means it can hold full reflux now, not as an additional reflux module but to transfer the cooling more efficiently just as woodduck said.

Ah nice, thats a handy hint for a beginner. Hey would having the temp gauge after the RC be a good idea to tell if its in full reflux or not?

No need for a temp gauge to know that, thats why you have sight glasses. If you like the bling then go for it but I don't think you need one on a bubbler, mine hasn't and i don't have any trouble :handgestures-thumbupleft:
