3" SGs in 6" is a pretty good balance...

Do you use the same template for all of your branches? I print a new one for every piece and tape it down with clear packing tape.

Yep same template. Just tape the template together so it slides up and down the pipe then mark, slide it out the way, cut, slide it back up, mark, repeat :handgestures-thumbupleft:

With this copper virus I have a hole saw is the best for any site glass. Just cut the site glass piece, a drill or mill then cut a hole in the copper pipe. Then making joins is as an if one needs to grind out the internals later so be it.

WD your a master addict the same as me and man it is a infective disease where there is no cure but keep up the good work

When you cut those sight glass tubes woody, do you get two each cut? or do you square it off and go again?

Nah to make it easy I've been squaring off and going again. If they were longer, say 100mm I would swap the template around and slide it on the other way to use the copper to the maximum but because these are so short (20mm) the template wouldn't sit well enough to ensure it's square enough. The length of the template it what ensures squarness, if there was only 20mm of pipe in it it could easily get out of square. I only lost 15mm in odd shaped scrap each one so not too bad. Did that make sence?

Yes mate, perfectly. So it isn't possible to get a neat cut on the curved section to make two formed ends from one cut? or is it that they aren't necessarily symmetrical?

More a laziness question than the matter of waste I suppose :-B

Yer not symmetrical, very close but not close enough :handgestures-thumbupleft: it would definitely save a bit of pipe but the risk of crooked sights wasn't worth it.

Got the plates, the risers, downcomers and downcomer cups cut and ready to go. I also drilled the hole for the 3" blockhead and shaped the 3" to suit. Next step will be the caps so it's time to say goodbye to the ol boka, too much 2" just sitting there wasted.

Didn't get alot of time on the build this weekend but did get my risers, downcomers and caps done. Just a little bit of a clean up and they'll be good to go. Next on the list is the weirs and put the plates together. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Haha not yet mate, let's see if this thing works first.

The plates fit beautifully. I annealed the weir ring so when I test fitted them I could easily tap them out to suit the pipe :handgestures-thumbupleft: they will need a bit of cooking oil to get them in but should go nicely. I've got one in the freezer at the moment to see if it shrinks enough to slide in easy.

I've made the rc to fit on the threaded rods so the whole lot can go on one big tree but I'm now having second thoughts about that

I'm also slightly worried the plate is a bit crowded now the weirs are on, not much room for liquid but fingers crossed it will be ok.
