In the name of keeping this build going, I managed half hour shes time after work today. Got my 2" to 4" keg attachment and base of my bubbler done. Ferrule soldered on and easy flange soldered on. Will give it a citric bath and clean up tomorrow.

Have you decided on your sight glasses yet?

Hi dan! At this stage I am using 2" sight glasses. I haven't bought a kit yet however. I was looking to buy off mac, but I will now wait until the boys have 5 star up and running again. I have My 2" template for cutting the branch off to fit the 4" so I will go ahead this afternoon and cut them to fit and solder on the easy flanges. I wont solder them on yet because I am trying to source some 4" pipe cutters to tidy up my modules dead straight for the easy flanges, and to then know where to mark up for soldering of the tees.

How are you enjoying your bubbler mate? Youve done a great job. Are you finding the rewards in flavor and product worth the effort?

Cheers Nathan :handgestures-thumbupleft:
I didnt find it necessary to use pipe cutters, just a pieces of paper long enough to wrap around your pipe and then some so it overlaps. The key thing is to make sure the paper it perfectly the same width along the length of it or it wont work. I got my cuts pretty good doing it this way.
My sight glasses are just big washers basically, cut out of 2mm aluminium sheet. I just clamped my sight glass between these and a flange using lttle bolts. Fairly cheep to make, just used 2 different size holesaws to cut out washers.

Very happy with my bubbler, running a CFW as we speak. Havent tasted too much from her yet, but doing cuts on a feints run the other week i clearly noticed very defined cuts compared to my pot, so should be able to get much cleaner finished product if it don't stuff up my cuts.

Managed to get my 3 sight glass branches knocked up today. 2" peepers. Made a start on my shotgun condenser. So far have 1 end plate fitted. You think you have systems figured out for the build and then the copper tells you to do it another. Challenging but good fun

Nice mate!
Things quite often go much smoother in your head :laughing-rolling:
Where would the challenge be if it all went smoothly!
Keep plugging away... you'll get there.

Cracked on with my RC today. Brazed the shell ends on and will braze water inlet/outlet. Took a fair while to fit up but everything ended up nice and snug. Picked up some 1/2" needle valves for free from work that should work well.

Designed to hold 10,000psi bluc so should hold town water pressure alright. Getting excited for bubbler rum!

:happy-partydance: nice progress, getting a shotgun condenser made is a huge confidence boost

Looking good Nathan!
The RC is a tedious bit of gear to make! I took a big sigh of relief when i finished mine, especially when it didn't leak.

Hey fellas do you use a flapper wheel to flush out the ends of the tubes? I have about 5mm extra length

I use a flappy disc but I only bother with the top because you don't want spirit pooling on the condenser because it will cause smearing. The bottom doesn't matter because it will just drip off the ends of the pipe :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Nice job by the way

Nice work :handgestures-thumbupleft:
If it's on the bottom side of the RC I wouldn't bother but top side needs to be flush so fluid can't pool there. I built mine with the plate on the outside of the tube so I just used a file to get them flush. I believe people have used flap disks in the past with great success.

Just beaten by woodduck

thanks for the advice fellas. Got my sight branches soft soldered on. will cut out the holes and then solder on the easy flanges for the tees. Bought a 2" hole saw to cut out the bubble holes but the bastard is same diameter as the 2" so wont slip in so am going the old school approach 1" step drill through and filing back

I did all my hole saw cuts for my sight glasses with this crappy little kit from the big green shed:
Screenshot_20180714-093509.png

Used some wd40 to keep everything happy. Hole saws are still fine but I fucked my $20 xu1 drill (it was about 13 years old and I'd built my boat with it so it'd had a good life). Anyway the kit had a hole saw that wasn't too far off the size needed to fit inside the sight glass tee and then I filed/dremelled off the rest with a cheapo cut off wheel on my rotary tool.

Reckon that'd be heaps faster than using a 1" step drill bit and filing. And costs bugger all.
