So I got some goodies, finished outlet/pc/blockhead/packed section, so I thought t’d clamp the all together to see how is looking, mighty fine.

Care of an old mate from NZ, he bought over with him some glass, plates, caps, ends and bits and bobs. His dads cousins mates girlfriends grandpa or something runs a hbs in Auckland or Wellington or somewhere, said he can bring me over what he uses at home for a few hundred dollars, their cost price. So naturally I had nothing to loose, there is actually 5 plates squeezed in there, but I do have a spare piece of glass.

Next is to put together the rc.
Weld ferrules to keg.
Mount the wheels to the keg.
Make 2x 4” end caps.
Clean stainless packing & install
Start a couple of tpw

I think that’s it.

I’ve got 20l of vinegar waiting and I’m starting to get a bit itchy.

Nah didn’t miss anything Bluc, I just didn’t say until now, as until Christmas I still hadn’t decided which way to go, glass or sight glasses, but then this one time offer came up, I couldn’t resist and to be honest, I love the look of the glass.

Off Flea bay for $25. Just search lpg blow torch and sift through the rubbish. I did however buy a new mixer tip today from Bunnings as Woodduck suggested downsizing my mixer tip to give a more controlled flame, so shal see how that goes when I solder together the RC

Found my big window washing bucket full of sand with the whole CAT fleet buried within. Quick hose out & filled her up, dropped 50g citric acid in the water and started bathing my completed bits.

Every thing got a bath overnight and the pc because of the length, had to be rotated a couple of times. Hit the stubborn dirty bits with steel wool then rubbed everything down with the green pot scourer in tap water

I quite like the brushed effect the green scourer leaves so no polishing for me.

I do still need to clean out the PC tubes as I can still see crap in them.

Big tip for anyone about to start a build, use new pipe for PC especially if it’s 1/2”, it’s a royal pain in the arse. Gonna have to go to the gun shop like Hillzabilly suggested to get a rifle cleaner

I’m glad I left the RC to last to solder. I’ve got my technique 90% so my soldering is looking pretty good. Big thanks to Woodduck, down sizing the mixer tip has worked wonders. I get a nice even blue flame, that’s so much easier to direct heat and I am able to see when I’m putting too much heat into the copper. Building up the experience to finish with the RC has been the right move for me. May as well do a parrot now.

The leeks are about a drop every 10 minutes so not quite perfect. I’m stoked it wasn’t a sprinkler which is what I was expecting. After the kiddos go to sleep, take 2 and hopefully seal up the little buggers with some flux and a little heat. I’m hoping that’s all it needs.

First 20l TPW is down awaiting sac run now. Off to Sydney tues so hopefully th boilers welded by the time I get home and then it’s ball game.

Nice going mate, no leaks on the first time :happy-partydance:
I couldn’t see in that photo but I hope you were wearing thongs, otherwise it doesn’t count and you’ll have to rebuild it :laughing-rolling: :teasing-tease:

Damn, you added that edit after my post. Oh well, not many get a leak free rc on the first time.

Well done mate, great news :handgestures-thumbupleft:
You'll get those few leaks no problem. Just make sure its nice and dry first, plenty of flux and heat gently.

Good luck

That’s this weekends job, mate, I’ve cut some new 3/4 pipes and after lunch will start cleaning the 4” & end plates. Hopefully tomorrow I get to pressure test.

I’ve dropped my keg of to a local stainless fabrators to weld the ferrules on and nipples for the heating elements, so can’t wait to get that back

More to come
