Sealing plates?

Have been decieding on how I will work my plates.

To get them watertight I need to use 3 wraps plumbers tape around edge. Wondering how hard wearing the tape is? Is it a pain in the arse wrapping them each time? Or has someone worked out a more permanant seal solution u channel or super thin silicon mat or something similar?
My plates sit inside the lip on a standard seal with inside lip removed..

I think Wooduck used a couple of rounds of thread tape in his MotherDuck build, but thats with a 'Plate Tree' and I don't think he intends on pulling it out and putting it back in as part of his running regime ...

Principle would be the same, tho for you, just replace the tape as needed... not sure if you need a 100% seal as there are a number of people here that have added-in drain holes on their plates to allow drainage once their still is turned off.

I didn't use thread tape, mine are tolerance fit and have wiers around the plate to help hold a bath. I just couldn't see how tape would stay on the plate without being draged off or torn while sliding into the colomn.

I think blucs problem is different to mine as he is going modular and is trying to seal between two easy flanged T sections. I don't really understand the problem your having as I've never built/used or seen a modular still. I would think that you should be able to seal your plate one way or another without tape as plenty of blokes have, must be something you've missed. I'll let the blokes that know help ya here :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Just reread you post because I was sure you said you used thread tape... turns out it was a suggestion by Zac but your answer (?) was that the tree was too tight and that would tear the tape up...!?! Didn’t find the second part so I may be under the influence of a mind altering substance... 8-}

My apologies for the misdirection.
