Blucs bubbler

So thought it was time I built myself a bubbler. It will eventually have 4 plates for normal brown spirit use and 5+ a packed section for for neutral. I am waiting on bit more 4" copper to do my last two tees. I am using a blockhead design with a one piece combo deflag bloack head. All hard soldering was done with aquasafe 5% sticks soft soldering with aquasafe lead free solder.
I am using a single two inch cap on each plate with 3/4 downcommer. Have made some headway with it here is a few pics.

I started with my deflag. pipes are 100mm 5x 3/4 internals. I hard soldered the pipes in and I plan to soft solder it in place in the 4" pipe.

roughed out and fit assembled

cleaned up ready for hard soldering

to keep things square I slid the assembly into one of my tee sections and brazed it being careful to to solder it to the pipe wall.

and finally all ready for cleanup

Next I started on my tees. A friend was kind enough to press me some easy flange rings. They take a standard seal and suit standard clamps.

Rings

and rings inside a standard clamp

These rings are a nice snug fit over 4". I squared the ends of the pipe with my disc sander then squeezed on the rings. I also
hard soldered the rings into place.

Next was the sight glass. I decided on 2" sight glasses I used these stainless ones

And hard soldered in place ready for cleanup

I am not much of a solderer and have a fair bit of cleanup to do on the tees.

Still deciding how I will do my tee branch couple of options floating around my mind at the moment. Will see. For now things will grind to a halt till the new years due to lack of money. Happy with how things are going.

My pc I made a while back and is being used with my pot. It is a shotgun with 5 3/4 inner tubes and 400mm long..

Very noice!

What’s the theory on the downcommer design? That’s very different to what I’ve seen before...

Slows the flow of water similar to having a cap on end. fills up level across the u then overflows causing a vapour lock.. :-B .

How do people do weep holes in downcommers? Can i drill small hole in bottom horizontal piece of downcommer for drainage? :-B and is 1mm normal weep hole size?

Looking good man.

I'll have to try an get in the workshop again soon and make the rest of the flanges for us before they move it on me.

For the weep holes get them in the lowest part on the U-bend you've made and try and make them small as you can so it maintains vapour lock at lower powers.

Looking the goods mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:
The only constructive criticism I have is that those downcommers will hold a lot of liquid imo. It may cause smearing depending on how you run her.

Looking great. Love the idea of the downcomer rising into the void of the riser.
