Hey ezi, I run an ibc with a 65w solar hot water pump. I can do 3x80L strips in a day but as night temps in qld are over 30 atm only two the next day. I can do two rum/whisky run a day or one 75L low wines vodka which took 16hrs.

Congrats on the maiden voyage bluc. I just ran my first tpw for neutral and wasn't impressed with it. I have ss scrubbies and 600mm packed section on top of 5plates. I will be getting some scoria to compare but think I'll end up making the rest of the 4in I have into packed section so I will have 1.3m packed.
Oh I'll send you the pics you requested a bit later today though I suspect you're sorted now.

Wow, 16 hours!!! :o that’s some serious time! I’m guessing it’s 75L over 2 spirit runs?!?! Otherwise you must be running a small still... on a huge boiler...

My secret to a tasty TPW is to let it sit. Once it finishes, I keep it sit and settle out for near-on a week. Changes the flavour to a slightly sweet flavour with a subtle floral note... and that’s after doing a strip in pots till more followed by a spirit run over 4 x 4” with a 500mm packed section (2 x copper rolls and the rest filled with SS scouters)...

I really like it! Smooth and really easy to use in mixers.

Cheers and thanks for the info on ibc and the blow torch. I think I will be getting an ibc. Going by google the black ones are uv stable, and I know where to get them local. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I heated the pc up to strip the solder there was a quite big gap on one end so I thought stuff it new ends :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Pulled the whole pc apart and cleaned up the bits. Made new ends this time instead of fitting ends inside I put them on outside 2".

Brazed the ends and tubes in place with 5% silver solder, then soft soldered the water pipes, had pin holes I chased most of the arvo everytime I would try flow the silver solder I would de solder the water lines, after the third time I said stuff it will braze the water pipes to, for the life of me I couldnt get the solder to flow on the water pipes. Gave up in disgust about 4.So Round one to the product condenser. Tomorrow I will get an lpg bottle torch and reflow the whole thing. The little map torch really struggles and barely gets the solder to flow :crying-blue: :violin:

If everything is unsoldering as you go I would say you've got it too hot. Maybe your tip is too big? Have you had a look at my PC video, may help.

When hard soldering you'll definitely desolder your water lines if they are soft solder. This isn't a big deal. With mine I hard soldered the insides then soft soldered the water fittings to test. I had a small leak so I deliberately removed the water fittings, fixed the leak then resoldered the water fittings.
Also are you using any flux for the hard soldering?

No flux coffee. So it seems the lpg torch was a waste of money with the lpg torch and the mapp torch both hitting the surface the solder barely flows let alone the lpg torch by itself :crying-blue: Then I dropped it after being heated(soft annealed) and put a big dent in it. At this stage I think I will cut my losses and buy one.. :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead:
water pressure may push the dent out but I doubt it..

Ah thats Shyte!

Don't throw it out, just retire it for a while, never know when inspiration strikes again and you can then fix it or modify it or whatever.... :teasing-blah: :teasing-blah: :teasing-blah:

That's terrible, I'd be taking it back as it's clearly not fit for purpose.
If you can wait till I'm next up that way I can loan you mine? Or if you come down here you can use my shed for an arvo?

I used flux when there was lots of fiddly bits close to each other, I found it helped flow into the joints better and I didn't have to be so fussy with heat and placement of heat and once it was hot enough I could feed the rod pretty quickly and easily.

At this stage I think I will buy one. By the way what % silver sticks did you use?

15% for the internals again for easier flowing. Flanges were 5%

Lpg won't do hard solder, they are only good for soft solder and hard soldering easy flange rings. There's probably nothing wrong with the torch itself its just not capable of the job you want it to do.
