Have you considered that you might be running it too fast at 2.6 to 2.7 L per hour? I know some members have said they run at that speed but changes in RC and plate design, power input, cooling water temp and flow rate can all affect the reflux ratio or abv. If you're not happy with the result, slow it down, more reflux, and you shouldn't get better product. My last run was at 2.5 L/h but I'd like to run it slower for better quality.

Yeh me too on speed ,with 2400-2800wt I would aim for about 1.5lt/hr for neutral, plus looking at the drilling of the packing retainer I would drill some more holes ,carefully to avoid snagging and ripping the soft copper with a little vege oil of some kind, evening their position up and maximising flow and reduceing the chance of restriction and flooding, little differences add up down the line for quality.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Been getting my figures from reading all the old development threads on HD and artyd (including Mac's), every one has a different take on things, but a well designed still can use the power I've listed, I've seen examples that have exceeded those figures, 1litre/kWh a hour seems obtainable and what many on here get

There are few details of anyone running a 4" packed reflux still without plates on this site, I plan to fix that soon

My bad on the neutalizer - can't look at one atm

stuff up 2, Bluc I thought the number of plates is proportional to diameter vs height and I was wrong, I had spent a lot of time on calcs and I thought I had that bit sussed.

My reasoning on putting the plates at the top was to see if having a large uninterrupted area for the bottom "plate" of separation to settle into would help stability and increase abv

That's pretty much how I run my neutraliser with 4 plates and packed section using low wines.

Hey proffesor the collection rate I told db was for flavoured spirit. Not sure what collection rate was on neutral bit it took about 4.5 hours per 40l wash..
