Its a bit rugged but holds town water pressure. Will post it up tomorrow after I give it a tickle. Not actually held up by cash anymore, Just gotta wait to hear from 5star for a small order couple clamps bend an end cap and few seals and can run it. Will need couple fittings from bunnings for cooling.
Also dont think 200l cooling drum will suffice will need to up the power on my radiator cooling fans to hold the heat back..

Cant be bothered polishing up rc/blockhead today today to hot in the shed will get it done asap and post updated photo..

Wondering how much room between packed section and top cap is needed? I can fit 3 plates and a packed section easy as but if I have a plate on bottom and top of the top tee i could have 4 plates and a packed section.. as long as 75mm between plate and packing is enough.. or should I just stick to 3 and a packed section.. i wouldnt have a sight glass on top one then either..

Hey bud, was looking awesome earlier.

I would think 75mm would suffice as people generally run slower for neutrals and if some does splash up it won't cause problems unless it's sufficient to cause flooding.

Just go 4 plates B. No need for a packed section. I made a 600mm flanged tube for stripping and using as a packed section, haven’t used it yet. I strip over 4 plates with no reflux then spirit run over 4. Add the basket for gin.

Plus stripping and combining low wines then spirit run through a 4 plate bubbler is faster than doing individual single runs through a 5 plate bubbler.

Hmm, I'd wager that the neutral isn't so neutral.

I've run three times through five plates and still not been 100% happy with it!

Maybe a different wash would be easier to get to neutral but packed sections are great for stripping out flavours. My2c

Baby steps but progress all the same.
Resized_20180111_144505_1508.jpeg

Gave the deflag/bkockhead a quick cleanup and some of my stuff arrived. After seiing the 5star bend I will also need a short pipe section between the blockhead and bend so the bend clears my cooling lines. I bought some more braided line and a pressure regulator. I need to track down a nipple that will go from the regulator and a standard 1/2" nipple. I bout some 15 to 10mm ones from bunnings but its smaller than that. Couple more fittings and clamps and I will be good to go :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Agree. Can't beat the reflux packed column for neutrals

It would prob clear if I had the pc on an angle forward. No biggie clamps are not here yet anyhow. It will all work out :handgestures-thumbupleft:
As far as packed section I can fit 3 plates and 500mm packed so will try that.even if I have to double distill.
Instead of a fill port any problem with filling the boiler via the column? Would the full reflux part of the run clean it up ok?
On second thought prob not a good idea on grain/fruit mashs etc

You must have a pretty low ceiling ta only fit 3plates and packed section,is that with a plate straight on the boiler or after one section ?,used ta fill one of my first boilers by pumping into the drain ,was ok for a while but got inspired by a few on this sight and had ta go with all the bells and whistles.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

Hey Bluc,
looking good ... bet you can feeble the distilling going on ... :))

As for the cooling line, why not see if you can't shorten the copper and put on some elbows...?!? Our cooling lines are on a 90 degree bend...

As for a filling port, I'd agree with Hillz, not having a dedicated fill port is a royal PITA!
We've got a 2' and if I'd be given a second chance I would go 3" - just be so much easier!

Who was it, just recently posted a pic of a boiler with a 90 degree bend on the side as a fill port and Temp gauge ... ?!? forget now... - but that would almost be the way to go IMO.

It was DB who had the fill port out the side

Have thought about soldering elbows etc but I think I like the spacer idea better.. desicions..

My bottom plate sits on a "spacer" tri clamp pipe
Hilzabilly.. until I can afford a decent boiler with a 4"ferrule.
I have a 1/2" female bsp to 1.5" tri clamp coming for fill port but is on the slow boat from you know where.. looking at an interim solution..

Going to move my thermoport is at bottom currently, gunna move that to middle for more accurate reading and going to put another bulkhead directly above the old thermometer hole and link it up with silicone hose for a sight glass meter. And the fillport up top..

Again, just my opinion - get a 6” ferrule on the boiler!!! Easier to get your arm into it when needed!
I can’t get past my forearms on a 4” and I’m not big/phat or have a Tradie’s forearms...
