Roger that .Ifn thats not going ta be your boiler of choice I would not spend too much time and money on it,set that aside for the best option,ok its a hassel to take a still off to reload but it is also good practice and you get ta know your gear very well, then get the boiler of ya dreams, plus that still sure does need a dead sexy boiler ta match for the ball, sometimes takes awhile to get things done when all of us would love a bag of $$$$ to drop on our set ups, keep swingin.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Exactly put a 6-8inch one on a 80-100lt boiler tho ,but with a bigger boiler you may loose height as well and a 6-4inch reducer required will take up even more height ,message is those with low ceilings need ta plan a boiler very well ifn ya after 4-5plates and a packed section.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

Perhaps and need to look at a side ways boiler.. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Actually been toying with idea of a rectangular custom made one. Or maybe like a semi fuel tank..

I've toyed with the idea of a rectangular boiler but nothing suitable came up for sale second-hand and when I priced having one made I laughed at the bloke.
An 80L keg on its side with a 4in still mount and a 6in fillport with half inch drain would do nicely. Mine sits 640mm high with atleast 120mm wasted on wheels. That would put it as 20mm higher than the short 50L kegs which get higher if you want drains.

It was hillz, I copied the idea but put it on the bottom of my column, under the first plate.

I'd piss off that brass elbow with the unions, get a couple of copper capillary elbows, cut the water lines shorter and solder the copper elbows on. Those brass unions are leaks waiting to happen IMO. Plus they take up heaps more room than coppery capillary elbows.

What pump are you going to be using? I found the braided lines were too restrictive on flow, plus they were a pain as they always seemed to get in the way (I'm really restricted with space where I run my still). But if your pump can handle it and you've got the space then all good.

For sure! I can just squeeze 4 plates and a packed section on a 100 litre milk can into my shed. In that configuration I have 3mm clearance above the blockhead!

I'm sorta surprised at the preference given to "reducers" as you could easily have a 4" ferrule welded to a flat 6" or 8" blank that is held in place by a tri-clamp and, voila, you have a space-saving reducer...

Already using them. Three plates and 500mm packed section will leave me 50mm. When I get a bigger ferrule on the boiler I can ditch the spacer and add another tee. Which will give me 4 plates and a packed section..

Yeah I've got one half of a double garage but my boat takes up almost all the room. I'm left with the small space behind the boat and one shelving unit. I store my still, boiler and cooling setup under the stern of my boat so we can all still walk behind the boat to use the back door. Plus it's the only passageway to get the mower from the front yard to the back. I'd love more space

I reakon if I could empty everything else out of the shed it would be just right for mashing stilling...

Just a thought but as you have limited height there's a cpl things that might help!
1 dig out the area that the still will sit. The easiest option but would require an inline pump to empty boiler.

2 lay a couple courses of bricks under the base of the shed. This would require you to get a cpl mates to lift the shed off the ground and chock it up with something while you lay the bricks. 2 advantages of this would be no pump required and a big fella like you would have more head space lol
