A&O wrote:I have seen on other builds people putting an extension into the downcomer with holes drilled in one side so the bath liquid drains through the holes but the extension limits the amount of liquid splashed down the down comet opening. An easy mod if it does become an issue later on down the track.

Yep your right, I remember that now. I recon it was hillz that did that? Would be an idea if you were worried.

:text-thankyoublue: blokes...
I'll keep that in mind. Sure would be quicker than making another plate, if it becomes a problem that is!

You could put a simple half pipe gaurd there if you wanted or fill a few of those slots on that side with solder.

I do all my downcomers like that now, just finnished a 6inch test plate with 2inch riserand 21/2inchcap with 1inch upper downcomer and 3/4inch lower downcomer with a 11/2inch cup, plus a little 2inch copper cup to direct reflux, with a bath depth of 50mm.I like the idear of keeping the cap in the center of the plate and did that with this one ,works well fa me,shall be interesting ta see how she goes.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

Hope it works for you hillzabilly... it looks too good not to mate. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Shouldn't get anything going down the downcomer thats unwanted with that design.
Noticed there is 2 holes in the downcomer, is the second one a backup ?

Got my holes drilled for elements too, just need a sparky to wire them up and me make some guards for them.
Other than that... get a couple things welded on and hopefully get the sight glasses so i can finish them off.
Then she should be right to do a proper leak test and then clean her up a bit!

Thanks all... its annoying when ya got to wait patiently for something to come in the mail. Feels a bit like this :angry-banghead:
Even more annoying when you cant try out the rest until that piece of the puzzle is sorted. Good things come to those who wait I suppose.
My sight glasse are going to clamp between flattened 1/2 pipe and some aluminium washers i made. They should look good shone up against the shinny copper... here's hopping!!
The 1/2 copper pipe was actually quite challenging to get flat and nice and round at the same time. Once it was flattened fully it was pretty well stuck in that shape. Had to get it right the first time. 8-}

Made a couple of element guards this evening... I'm hoping 32mm pipe will be big enough for the electrician to do the wiring in.
The plan is to weld the pipe to the nuts on the elements.

Well... got my keg back the other day! :happy-partydance:

Been gone for over a month but i must say my bloke did a top job welding on the pipe for the drain and the flange for the inspection hole as well as my sparky doing a top job at his end.
Made up some legs for it tonight, so I'm thinking the keg is about done... don't think I've forgotten anything.
