It’s finally done!!! (almost)

Postby Buttsieus » Wed Feb 28, 2018 10:51 pm

Hey all,

Have finally got my 4” bubbler all done and cleaned! Sorry I dont have photos of progress but I did nothing new that hasn’t already been shown a hundred times. Also I get so engrossed in what I am doing I forget to take photos anyway. But you get my somewhat dodgy attempt at some copper porn (photos cover a multitude of sins).

I built 2 columns. First is a perforated six plate plus 750mm of ss scrubbies. Plates are 5” apart. Total height about 1.8m. Have not done a proper run but cleaning run was astounding!!! Nothing new to you guys I’m sure but I was a happy happy boy. Ended up at 97% temp corrected (I assume cheap alcometer?) and so very fast. Coming from a 2.5” boka that was to short I couldn’t be happier.

Second column is a carter head to make gin.

Nothing new and a blatant copy of what has already been done but there it is!

Hope you like

Well done mate, thats some nice work right there :handgestures-thumbupleft:

There's nothing like running a bubbler for the first time, even more so when you've hand crafted it yourself. You should be very happy with that :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Looks great! Well done

Does the the Carter head attach straight to the top of the boiler? If so, I'm wondering if the long 2" section will limit the speed at which you can run it. Just a guess.

RC onto boiler then Carter head. I assumed the limit of the 2” would be fairly minimal and would just make vapour speed a bit faster. I needed to get some height and had no 4” left. Hope it doesn’t make it to slow. I can always change it later if needed. I’ll find out soon enough. Hopefully will do a cleaning run on the carter head this weekend

Two in will have way more capacity than your likely to need. You'll find vapour speed blowing botanical over into your collection jug before at capacity.
Hopefully there's a bit of room between the 2in and the bottom of the basket so vapour speed settles. Though I only see this as being an issue at very fast take off speed.
Looks awesome but I reckon your boiler has seem better days :laughing-rolling:

Sweet build. Is that drum insulated inside? Or just a wind break?

Nothing a bit of spot and polish can’t fix :-D. Drum is not insulated but it does hold the heat in alright plus it does block the wind. Does look a bit out of place now that column is all cleaned up. 50l keg inside with a 3 ring burner. Still have to mod the keg to fit a fill port
