Haha I was all ready to get the leave the keg somewhere to be welded until I seen them on front of me, I just had to have one. I've been thinking will I just cut the swivel nut off and clamp onto the flange or put a reducing bush in and leave it there. I'm hoping to get the plates and parrot finished tomorrow and get my was in gear with fermenting (I know, I should have started fermenting before now).

Started marking and making my own single cap bubble plates with 32mm riser, 20mm downcomer into a 25mm cap, 25mm pool with a 5mm difference in height of riser and downcomer. 50mm cap bubble cap to be placed over riser and they should be ready to go. I have heard the smaller multi caps are better but I fancied making my own for now with the view to possibly upgrade to fsd multi caps in the future

Parrot is almost finished too. A reducer and ball valve to be put on the bottom and a vent near the top and she is also ready to go. I do have a photo of what I currently looks like on the boiler but not sure if I should wait until it is complete and cleaned to put the photo up ;-)

I run 2inch caps with the spaceing 3mm apart but the slots are 10mm deep ,with a bath depth of 25mm.I got then from FSD as Mac made me aware how critical they are ta get the best from ya still.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

Your 32mm riser has an area of 675/704 mm (1.22/0.91 wall thickness)
The slot area should match (possibly exceed) this amount 1mm slot + 3mm /160 circumference of 2" = 40 slots @16.9/ 17.6mm

Have a think about using 1.5 or 2mm slots to achieve a wider spacing, the spacing between is about preventing the bubble streams from merging and forming bigger bubbles with less surface area.

If I cut a depth of 10mm instead of increasing the width, would that work better? I will probably end up with fsd plates eventually but want to try my own first to see how they go

Mate my advice is based on what I know works,10mm would be the go in my opinion with around 36 slots per cap and they could be up to1.5mm wide.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Cheers hillzabilly, will give it a go and see how they go. I've never used a bubbler so I may not know if it is working correctly or not :o

Finally got some time to get in and finish a few bits.
Packed section is assembled and currently in a citric acid bath

20181104_183250-1470x3024.jpg

Extreme care was not really taken with the bubble caps because I will probably eventually end up with fsd multi plates.
20181104_124816-1470x3024.jpg

Here is how I mounted the plates. A little chamfer on the inside of the module then a little chamfer on the plate. Put a little bit of white PTFE to seal any gaps there may be.
20181104_193042-1470x3024.jpg

And finally, ALMOST finished. Just a 3" clamp needed, a stainless drain valve and wire the elements. I could have made it sparkle a little better but I know how copper goes in time so I couldn't justify shining for 2 days to have it go green in a week ;-)
Happy with how it turned out, time to test for leaks, vinegar run, sacrificial run then finally get to make some of the good stuff.
Cheers to everybody for the help along the way, I couldn't have done it without this forum. The learning only begins now :D :D

Looking good there mate :handgestures-thumbupleft: hope you’ve got a few washes ready.
I’d suggest adding a breather to your parrot though, and it looks like the parrot is sitting on the edge of the boiler? If so I reckon it’d rattle during a run and be annoying. By adding the breather you could move the parrot out a bit further with a slight bend or two

Currently have the 200l drum in Napisan and will be making a wash today or tomorrow. The parrot needs a breather and waiting on a stainless valve to put on the bottom too.

Looking good mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Use a clear coat over it and it will stay nice and shiny and won't go green :handgestures-thumbupleft:
