Dephlegmator design

So I see a few designs for dephlegmators, which is the more efficient design, less pipes with larger diameter or more pipes with less diameter.

I was thinking more pipes with less diameter would require less water/flow for best cooling

What's everyone's thoughts, it probably doesn't matter so much but would like to see if anyone has had experience with different types.

The less internal volume it has the faster it will respond to changes you make.

If you go too big on the pipes then you might have some vapour get through due to laminar flow, this can be solved with a bit of copper mesh lightly stuffed in the pipes.

It mainly comes down to how fiddly you want to make it and how you want to solder/braze it.

Has everyone made their dephleg by the recommendations of others on the forum who have more experience due to trial and error? Is there a formula to calculate surface area of tubes / flow rate through tubes due to diameter / dephleg length?
