Howdy folks.

Planning a 4" build shortly. What is the general consensus on the length of the tee sections. Is there any advantage of longer, or shorter sections? Is there a rule of thumb for length of tee to diameter of column? Cheers for any info.

100 or 150 are popular. Some say 150 is better to prevent entrainment on neutrals.... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Any hobby size bubbler optimally will have 6" or so between plates (have a look at the fsd units in 4, 6 & 8", you will notice little in height differences), This allows the bubbles sufficient space to explode and achieve good efficiency

Industrial units only use bigger spacing for cleaning purposes (or so I have read in engineering papers)

That makes sense. As you know, getting cheap tube is hard. I have about 1 meter of 4", so need to design the new build around my supply.

Don't skimp on the design because of a lack of 4"- just have some patience with the scrappy and visit often, this is not the hobby for impatience

If you get stuck, post a wanted ad, hopefully someone close by may have what you want

:text-+1: agreed. You'll be kicking yourself for ever if you make it short and have troubles running it. I'd suggest making less plate sections until you get enough material.
Btw I have a piece leftover that's 240mm long that you can have. I'm in Melbourne on the west side.
