I built my bubbler with a ball valve at the bottom of the parrot so while making a neutral I could drain the parrot before each new to avoid smearing as much as possible. Just wondering what a peoples preferences regarding doing this making whiskey? Shouod i just let it ride or should I drain it before taking the next 300ml? Is smearing all part of getting your flavour in whiskey or should I try keep it as clean as possible in each jar?

Smearing is no good for any drink, that’s why we make cuts. But I’ve tried emptying the parrot like you said on a few whiskey runs and saw no better results. I guess it’s down to the volume of your parrot, mines an fsd parrot and holds bugger all liquid with the alcometer in, maybe 100ml max.

My parrot is separate from my still so I don't use it until I'm pretty sure I'm into hearts. I just don't care what my heads read but if it were plumbed in you can bet I would drain it.

I usually run straight through the drain valve in the parrot. If I need an ABV measurement I close in the ball valve get my measurement and then drain it again. I do this to avoid smearing

Cheers guys, I ended up making a batch just running through the parrot, but I will try it straight through the valve next time and see if it makes any difference.
Any of you running bubblers for whiskey?

I'm using a bubbler but mostly for neutral. It's the same concept though, smearing is not spirit dependent
