Absolutly, so I was going with a 8-10L thumper to expect a 100L boiler (80L charge) any reason not to fab a thumper that big?
If I ever get a boiler that big I could ferment in a 200L plastic drum and do two runs. :happy-partydance:
The runs would remain shortish with the thumper @ around 3-4LPH :think:

In the meantime, the thumper will handle the 40L keg charge easily, but still haven't finished designing the thumper, so that will be ages away.

Not sure where I would get a stainless boiler that big, that still looks good. :think:

I thought about making a square one but no, too much work! :naughty:

Home now, parts are soaking in a citric acid bath, while I sleep.
Will weld the legs/element sockets/drain this afternoon. But I need an electrician to wire the element, so might be a day or two. :angry-banghead:

Have got some captain Morgan in the cupboard, so will have to have a few whilst thinking of a thumper.

Just a small question, are you using a pasagel, or a form of electric brush to clean your SS welds or all hardwork with the wire brush?

I do not see the bits between ya 4inch to 2inch reducer and the PC,did ya go 2 by 90'elbows or a one piece 180. bend,the first option is way more versatile .My thumper holds 10lt but is 20lt beer keg wich is low and wide compared to an 8inch to hold 10lt plus safety margin would be a fair bit taller wich meens your bath is quite deep wich makes getting the downcomer ta work well and maintain its level more difficult .cheers hillzabilly ;-)

The welds are cleaned internally and externally with a pickling gel.
I believe it contains hydrochloric/nitric acid (be wary). :puke-huge:
Any welding sTore should supply you with a “stainless pickling gel”

It’s actually quite easy to weld them if the parts are prepped to fine tolerance and machine is set with good pulse parameters. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I brushed them with citric acid and will run a thorough citric wash and then a sacrificial wash.

For sure mate, going to have to figure out a few measurements with the packed section removed and thumper added.

Make sure you get some nice wide diameter cooling lines, stay away from the braided ones they restrict flow too much.

Update :
I got the elements wired up.

The silicone baking sheets I cut out didn’t work :
1 - they leak :crying-blue:
2 - I folded them over when I bought them to check for fillers and they were all good, upon assembly I stretched them hard and they turned white (fillers added to silicone). You really have to stretch HARD to see. :o
3 - ordered some flat silicone seals off FSD

Ffv wash is on and bubbling slowly.
Probably run it up in a fortnight.

Got sick of tightening nuts by hand, so I Fabricated a long socket to go over the booker rod.
Gets driven by an 18v rattle gun.
Should make it 100 times faster :happy-partydance:
