blues build

Postby bluess57 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 4:44 pm

Roughed out my 4 perforated plates today, glad thats done.
broke 4 drill bits, blunted 2.
A big Thankyou to the members of this forum who contribute many useful tips.

Screwed the copper plate down onto a block of pine (old bit of sleeper) with template over top.
Centre punched holes for drilling.
Remove paper template, drill.. quick filing to remove "jaggies" admire the result

Nah he's got it right ;-)

One side needs a hole, the other a flat space for the cup..... think his DC's extend through to the next plate

I counted one plate - 226 holes
If my maths holds up approx 400mm^2 of hole area.
This is 5.5% of column area.

As Mc said...just follow the master.

Nice Blue

Like the hint about screwing the plates to a block and drilling first. Most spin them first then drill later .I think your Idea is cool.Do all the bash'n and drill'n then spin it to fit :D

Got me some 4" but too scared to make a decision what to do with it .

Lead the way brother

Share your stuff dude. Take the time to pic and post it, for others sake.

Looking good blues. Keep it up and in a few minutes, you'll have a beautiful still. Don't mind if guys go quiet, they are still watching. Good stuff.

So today I am roughing out the ends for a shotgun condensor. Thinking 4x 14mm (1/2") - length 450mm
Look thru the hole saws I bought the other day - f me, didn't get a 14mm (1/2" ) , can't be f going to bunnings, have a 13mm drill bit try that.
Screw it down to my trusty block of wood, punch where I want holes. First couple ok, next few f'ed. Tearing the holes.
So try starting from a pilot hole, gradually working up in sizes. F#@k - half my drill bits are blunt.
Had a 11mm it was good before going to a 13mm.
Managed to get them done.
Don't have any 1" pipe for cups, not buying caps (just yet).
Got some scrap, annealed it and made rings. Hopefully they will solder up as cups?

Cups on the plates for the downcommers, or whether to have them suspended and drill out the plate area I left...

your probably get a cleaner hole if you sandwich your copper between to pieces of wood then drill...I'm assuming this as I have not tried it.
