some bits are shanked and sharpened timber specific, they tend to "pickup"/lift thin metal and this happens +1 on the timber clamped over top it will work just go slow not too much pressure :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Is 450mm length for a shotgun product condensor overkill?
By my rough math, it's 2.25 times the inner cooling surface area of a liebig of 800mm length and at 400mm its 2 times

226 good result...good idea to keep some meat around the edge as you shape them up...

also it stops the bastard edges warping downward producing a convex effect when you slide em in due to wall friction/sticky points...

btw when it comes to sliding in time have I got a few great tips...pinched from mac & EG & Kimbo...killer tricks...

Get that lot done in a couple of weeks would be a great result..

Mac said one a few weeks back... working on it when your attitude sucks = a bad result...no pressure to finish here take your time, enjoy it. Finesse it a bit...

On the condenser 450 is nice,

In SA I'm on that length due to weather in summer.
Real issue is you going to stretch your build skills and go 5 x 1/2" in a 2" shell or settle for 4 x 1/2" in 2" shell.

5 works ... it's fiddly but it sure generates some heat knock down.

Another later consideration - I actually have 1.7m of 100mm (4") pipe.
With 4 plates with say 100mm spacing, I really only will use say 0.5m(?) of this pipe for a column.
So guessing I leave empty room at either top or bottom for say 2 additional plates in future - maybe without sightglass.

Hey Blue, those end plates look sweet.What did you do differently to get such an improved hole with no tearing ?

And +1 what linny said .Solder away and file off the shit later.Its amazing how quickly your soldering skills will improve .Practice on some scrap first.

Used a 3/4" hole saw on those end plates and a variable RPM drill which I borrowed.

a couple to consider for the extra 4" you have...

You've allowed for the dephlag I guess...they don't use much in any case

A EG/Crow rock filter section...works for me just a couple of eazy flanges, 1 over sized drilled plate and your done.

How tight a clearance does a plate to the column have to be ?
Of course the closer (tighter) the better.
I just tried wheel of fortune with one plate -> spin the plate in drill and file, with the drill clamped down, but the result doesn't impress me.
Might be building up some parts on the plate edge with some solder.
Tips anyone...

I did some once that ended up a little loose, Gas on suggested hitting the edges all the way round with a hammer and a light file.....

He's a legend now cuz it worked a treat :handgestures-thumbupleft:

That plate is out of round, and I've snipped another plate a bit close to the edge, it'll be touch and go.
I may be doing edge weirs or they're gonna be 3" plates for someone...

Just rolled the edge of the Dephlegmator section of DN100mm (4") for making an easy flange, was actually easy.
Something therapuetic about swinging a hammer after work :-)
SIde view looks a little off due to camera angle.
Think I'll grind/file down the hammering marks on the top surface.

Did you have to anneal it first ? How did you do it ? what kind of hammer ?

Sorry about all the questions ,just wondering cause I'm going over and over in my head how I'm gonna do mine and whether to try this method or go SS ferrels

This may help with grinding a very flat level that you can't achieve with a file .
Hold the part on a large level concrete floor and do large circular movements with your arm .Works a treat :handgestures-thumbupleft:
