Blues,
reckon I'd go the short length and make the rock section on flanges and tri clamps. I can imagine what a cold winter would do to refluxing. You may just find in winter it's not useable for that reason....I'm already see signs of this but shortie is a tall beast.

Update time... Had a pretty big day working on this build.
Went the "shorter" length for the column (550mm) .

Have the plates inserted, I soldered the bottom plate in.
The sightglass mounts done, joiner-reducer to keg mount done.

I'm soooo close to finishing.
Got the top of the column flange to go on. Need to take a blade to the sightglass silicon gaskets, then some clean & polish.
Still chasing a couple of pin hole leaks on the tubes thru the RC ... starting to irrate me. Tips anyone?

Awesome blue looking good mate. :handgestures-thumbupleft: get some good heat into the rc, I've found the bakers flux can handle some good direct heat, try flashing the torch across the top and flux and add solder if need be.

Nice work it really is near done...

Love the picy caption no flash equipment...kill for those work horses...

Those pin hole leaks are they at the plates to wall or tubs into plates?
Just to be sure the RC was soft soldered yes?

Might need one of the soft soldering gurus to advise if that's the case.

Anyway stick with it your doing real well look forward to seeing next week's update!

RC soft soldered. Pin holes are at the tube to plate join.
Must have redone this one pipe join about 6 times

Think I load the area up with solder and grind it back or
Try soldering with it overhead vertically so solder flow comes
out instead of falling inside/travelling down the pipe

Hasn't been much progress - bit of rain in the outside workshop
Fitted up 2" sight glasses.

Think I've got the RC condensor sealed finally, it is an ugly thing...

Well I've had a bastard of a time getting the RC sealed.
MK1 was pulled apart, spent way too long chasing leaks.
Started MK2 yesterday got it sealed up today
I re-did the end plates and tubes thru.
Almost called it quits and send out a call to Mc to build me one

Got water connections to sort and its cleaning run time next weekend
Did 2 runs thru the pot still this weekend as well.

Clamped the build altogether for a quick steaming run today, and leak check. Yep missed a spot on one of the sight glass mounts, bit of solder filling needed.
Windy as outside, so ran it beside the garden retaining walls. Don't usually run here, too cramped and pine sleeper retaining walls. Nice garden artwork?
Got some tweaking to be made on the water lines yet. Will be putting a 90 degree elbow off the top PC water line.
Also I need to think about product condensor takeoff piping for table/workbench/parrot.

Ran some junk-o-hol yesterday as a cleaning run - had foreshots, feints and puppy dog tails (from a gin run)...
Got to get some experience with running it now. Have a sacrificial rum wash to run today, once my hangover lifts.
Started the run yesterday, f#$k one leak from a sightglass. Musn't have had one sight glass mounted properly or done up tight.
Shut off and remount. All good, fire up again, no leak. Managed to drop the sight glass as well, would have been pissed if it broke. Must order spares.
Forgot to crack the water early enough on the RC, had foreshots dripping out the PC, without the bottom plate loaded.
Opened up the water for the RC, full reflux, back the heat off a little. Took awhile for the bottom plate to get loaded.
All up very happy.
Found a new use for me saw-horses. One front, one back, piece of aluminium plank across for a collection deck. Parrot on a brick, perfect fit to Mc's parrot.

Got a question for ya Ive read thru and don't see the answer.

download/file.php?id=3864&mode=view

in the pic it shows the bottom plate dumping in to itself. yes/no I'm playing with liquid levels and it caught my eye. Flooding not a problem or do you have a external drain to help. Confused at the moment or I.m just an ass.
