The cheapest ones on RS are $120, and they go up to $500 :shifty:

This place also advertises them on their site DG Instruments, but price on enquiry means it's too fucken much :teasing-nutkick:

Would have to be cheaper options available somewhere...

Cheers Googe,

It was $28 from eBay, but looks like pretty good quality, search for: "Flow Measuing Panel Flowmeter", shipped from Hong Kong.

Damn Brendan, I'm not that flush.

That sounds more reasonable :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So the purpose of this is just to be able to recreate reflux conditions repeatedly? i.e. being able to quantify the RC flow in a measurable number?

Keep in mind I haven't run mine properly yet, so I'm only curious, but I have mine setup where I can see the 2 output hoses from both condensers (like in EG's videos), and was thinking that would be enough to just visualise how strong that stream coming out is?

Yes that's the main reason, at the moment I can't really tell the difference between <0.5Lpm and 2Lpm, which is a bit frustrating, especially when slight movements in the output hose makes the stream look different.

I also have both hose outputs where I can see them, don't get me wrong, you can definitely control the thing like that, I just find it hard to get accuracy and repeatability.

Blondy, now you've got me interested...

What are the water connections for the flow meter/rotameter?

And is it just a through connection? ie. all the water passes through it...assuming it would to give an accurate reading of the flow...

They're just 1/2" male threads, easy to connect to coolant lines.

Yep all of the coolant water passes through the rotameter from bottom to top. It's before the rc, after the needle valve to minimize pressure.

Yep :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I would love to be able to stop buying things, and just mash, and ferment, and distill...but no! :wtf:

Ya can get them here with a needle valve built in for $37 dollars, saves buying the $80 needle valve most guys around here had to resort to.

Good find mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I've got a decent needle valve for $15, but I'll be checking out those rotameters. The ones I found on eBay seemed too high of a flow rate (1-7LPH) for my needs I think

Looks like the LZM-15 gives you several options as far as flow range, 0.1-2LPM, 1-4LPM, 1-7LPM, etc. I assume you just request the model you are after on checkout.

You might be having trouble finding the one I got because the seller has misspelt measuring, try searching: "GPM Flow Measuing". The listing is still up from what I can tell.

That's a good find Canadoz, if I'd known about them I wouldn't have bought an $80 needle valve. The quality may not be amazing on the valves, but for $30 it's worth a shot.

I don't understand buying $80 needle valves?? I've got $15 ones (plastic case, metal needle and knob) which do the job perfectly...I mean it's only coming into contact with cooling water? Not like a VM where you need an SS gate valve...

Thanks for that link you sent me Blondy. You were right, it's the heading. Same seller has some as 'Rotameter', and some as 'Water Flow Measuing Panel'...

I'm tossing up between the 0.1-2Lp/h, and the 0.5-4Lp/h...Im thinking I might want more accuracy at the lower values, so may go the first one...or both :?

The $80 thing was the only needle valve I could find quickly, should last a while though.

Why don't you get the 0.1-2 and the 1-7, then run them in series. You'd get the best of both worlds.

For my still (running 2.4kW), I recon I'll be sitting between 0.5 and 1Lpm for the majority of the time. My problem when I ordered was that I had no idea how fast the flow was (hence the need for the thing). I'd say if you've got 2.4kW you should be fine with the 0.1-2Lpm.

Whatever you do though, don't get the 0.1-2Lph, that's probably slower than you'll be running it ;-)
