modular macbubbler on a hbs boiler

Postby invisigoth » Tue Mar 05, 2013 3:05 pm

the big day arrived when a box from dubbya aye showed up at the door. the first thing you notice when you open the box is that mac doesn't mess around when it comes to the beefiness of his materials. as i looked at the collection of parts i wasn't sure if i was supposed to put it on my boiler, or attach it to my headers... :laughing-rolling:

i thought i'd assemble everything first just to check how it all fits together as a dry run, when i noticed just how much this thing weighs! x_x
so i had to come up with something to deal with that, and thus it was born....

i feel a bit jipped though, i think mac musta used mild steel, i mean look at it, apart from the triclamps the bloody thing's rusty! :teasing-tease: all the parts had been soaked in 50/50 vinegar, rinsed with boiled rain water, scuffed on the outside to give a faux brushed finsh and cleared. i have a tpw that should be ready to run on the weekend going for the cleaning run.

You're a lucky man, nice little scaffold setup as well. I struggle with balance on mine as well, mainly because of the 2" connection to little boiler.

yeh. the boiler is a t500 but the lid is for pure distilling. it's flat on top and with just a few of the modules on you could see the lid move with the modules if you pushed on it. i didn't feel confident that it could handle the weight of the elbows, product condenser and parrot hanging off the side, so i had to do something to steady it. :shifty:

I have the same boiler and lid, mine just rests on the garage bench on the product condenser side to take the horizontal stress off the lid. The weight pushing down on the boiler doesn't seem to be a problem.

Ive got one of them :D :)) . Awesome mate, looks good :handgestures-thumbupleft: . Your totally right about the weight, couldn't believe how much it ways for something smallish!, mind probably weighs a little more cause its 4x 3 and thats 4x2.5 isn't it?, I don't know cause Mac never said, I had to guess lol. There a awesome little still and make such beautiful rum!!!. I'm glad I have mine on a keg, that support thing would get annoying wouldn't it?. Have fun with it.

Kinda looks like a cross between a pensioners Zimmer frame and R2D2 :laughing-rolling:

Either way I'm happy for you invisigoth.
Actually you have given me some Ideas because when I finally get my shit together and build mine , it's going to sit on a HBS boiler for a while too :D
So thanks for the inspiration .

PS actually quite like your rust look :handgestures-thumbupleft: Think Mac knows his stuff
