Puke video for shits and giggles

Postby bt1 » Mon Jun 03, 2013 7:25 pm

Howdy,

promised on the glass still build thread I'd post a puke video, plus wanted to proof the little TC- "Tuna Can" sized RC

Normal run, best practice, nice and slow the normal way to do it....actually a tad slow really but hey had plenty of marsh mellows to toast and dunk in Port

Disclaimers:
This ain't a way to run a bubbler.. it's been done for two reasons only ...to test a new RC and for shits and giggles cos I ain't seen a puke before doubt any one has actually :D
Plenty safety gear, mate on stand by with a hose, fire extinguishers, fire blanket etc etc.
Noobs don't try this at home cos your hooch will taste like shite and it's bloody dangerous :naughty:

Notice the discoloured heady section...no wonder it tastes like shite when it pukes
So here it be for your entertainment...

enjoy!

You're a lucky bastard having that still .bt1

I've had pukes in my pot and my still spirits reflux and remember that well but I was curious how the yellow stuff is up on the top plate and the lower plates look cleaner .Whats your thoughts on that ?
Did the puke come out the condenser as well ?

Cheers. Keep up the excellent work

Howdy Yumm,

The puke shot straight through to top plate...the lower plates back filled with normal spirit which imho tends to fit with what a puke does...surge, then settles...

Only reason it didn't make the collection jar was the TC was run flat stick... wanted to see if it could hold its own...did well a few drops but that was it.

On the lucky bit... it's the cheapest bout $300 used, $500 purchase.. (you'll have sheet copper left over for years), fastest build bout 50 hours max work=3 weekends, plater I've ever made...and simple a real avg builder can do these...hand tools + Dremel or files + pc printed template for off set cold finger...you could print these anywhere....

Thanks for that bt1

also wondering did all that puke shit stay up there or did it work its way back down to the boiler ? If so how long did it take ?

Wish I was there watching :violin:

yeah It doesn't make sense to have the puke up there with the rest all clear , not for any length of time anyway. I would have expected that to head straight down and the trays to stack fores and heads to the top, are you sure it wasn't flooding holding the puke there?

that is flooding caused from vapour overcoming the DC'S, so yeah the puke has no way out ;-) not something recommended for a noob to attempt that's for sure.

my previous comment was just being a little facetious 8-}

Howdy,

Yeh Mac's got it Crow...if the RC was running in normal flows as per a run the puke would have shot out and it would as you mentioned started to reload plates as per normal...I just continued to overdrive the heat to test the RC...

The puke while I was trying for it, was so bloody quick I literally couldn't get a phone on it fast enough to video.. geez does it belt through your plates in a surge!

Don't get many chances to do this sort of testing with a few mates handy just in case. Again not something I would recommend to anyone to try it's risky at best and bloody dangerous for mine.

Took about 2 minutes to clear after removing heat shroud(retained heat), restarted normal run from there.
