Thanks DBV. The tooling wasn't what I needed & I made do with what we had.
Yeah Linny, I'd be up shit creek if it wasn't good work! This was a practice one til I get the technique I used fine tuned.

Next is to find some 3" tube at the scrap yard for site glasses. Also going to tinker with making some 2"-4" copper reducers.

I annealed the ends with the oxy then rolled them in the Jenny Form roller followed by a gentle squish in the brake if a 6 foot John Hyne pan brake folder. Then I squared them up on the machined flat marking out table at work. 100 percent square. I just like how the Jenny grabbed and pulled the tube inwards as I rolled it. If you look closely the tube tapers inwards towards the flange both top and bottom.

This was a test. Worked great bit will be trying another way next week. Will update as I go.

Went back to scrappies and got 2m x 1" & 1m x 3/4" for $15. Back there next week. So far I have spent only $105.

Cut, annealed & flattened some 2.5" pipe found in the scrap at work for some plates this week. I then put the flattened pieces in the hydraulic press between 2 steel plates to make sure they were flat.

I then used the good old fashioned circle cutter to cut the plates out. After cutting them out I placed each plate in the press like before to flatten. Results were great! Here are some pics..

I also banged out all my bubble caps. Took awhile between work only using lunches & smoko's but got a total of 30 caps out which leave me some spare. Thanks to this soldering tutorial I managed to solder them up pretty quickly by placing cur bits of solder inside and heat up on the outside which sucked the solder in the join.

I used the left over flattened pipe I cut my plates from in the turret punch. Punched out a heap of 1" discs and cleaned them up on the linishal.

er soldering I cleaned up the caps with the linishal belt and then a scotcbrite belt.

Here is the end result. I have decided to make bubble plates & perf plate modules so I can run both individually to see the difference for myself as I have the time to build both. Had the procedure on my right are so only light metal work could be done hence no driving of perf plates yet but it's coming. I will be finishing the perf plate modules first & spending more time building the bubble cap plates.

I'm off to the scrap again tomorrow to look for some 3" pipe for my sight glasses & tube for my product condenser & reflux condenser. If there is time I'll buy my 2 x 90 2" bends too. See how I go.

Hi Bushy,

Turret Punch is used for aviation sheet metalwork.

Thanks DBV. I'm limited with what I can do coz I'm getting injections to fix the tendons in my right arm so unfortunately this will be a slow build. :sad:

Mate an injury just makes you look for different solutions to a problem.... it can cause some great inventive thinking :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yeah it may be permanent DBV b the I'll have to wait and see. 2 operations and countless hours of crap rehab and needle after needle over 2 years and I'm pretty fed up with it all! Just have to give it time now!

Necessity always brings new ways to do stuff, you're exactly right DBV! I can do the caps but drilling and hammering is a pain with the arm the way it is. I'm in the process of coming up with a quick way to create my flanges for the 4" modules.

As for the slots in the bubble caps, that is definitely something I have been not looking forward too. But the way I'll do it is work on a plate at a time, that way I give myself a mental break from the repeated nature of the task.

Here is a quick go at creating a copper reducer, 4" to 2". TIG welded the cone then ground it & scotcbrite linished it then did some light beating on the stake table very rough but will be marking out a proper cone development on sheet next week. This one was just rolled by eye and chopped to fit with no real lengths sorted. I want my actual reducer to have a total height of 6" flange to flange.

What do you all think?
