Newbi's bubbler build.

Hi all, I have finally got 99% of the parts together for my bubbler build. I thought before I went too far I’d put my plan up here so I can sort out any problems you guys think I have before I go too far. While I think my plan is pretty main stream developed from ideas I have got from reading on here I don’t think it can hurt to get you guys opinion first.

So my plan is 4” all copper modular design, 140mm modules joined with easy flanges, 4” SGs with ss ferrules and tri clamps. I will use Mac perforated plates with his DC design and a yet to be determined length. RC will be 4”x 4” shotgun with 7 x 1” tubes. 4” to 2” reducer 2” 180 degree bend into 2” shotgun PC with 7 x ½” tubes reduced into a parrot. I will also make a 600mm packed section for neutrals to go on top. Please let me know if you can see any problems with my design or any improvements I could make. I have a couple of questions also firstly with regard to the easy flanges on 4”. When I look at the stainless 4” furrels I have, the flange itself is approx 11mm larger than the pipe itself, do I need to make my easy flanges that big? It looks like if I don’t the clamps may only touch in 2 places. With the parrot will a small Alcolmeter be ok in ¾” tube or will it suffer from the hydraulic effect. What I plan to do as I don’t have a pipe expander to fit my sight glass ferrules into the 4" pipe is to chamfer the edge of the furrel and the pipe and press the in with a hydraulic press, has anyone done this or is there a better way. I will put up some pics as my build progresses and no doubt more questions. I’d also like to thank everyone who contributes to the forum to make it the fantastic success that it is and without you guys I would never be building this still.

Sounds damn fine to me :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Mine ended up at about 120mm. It's the thickness that I had to be careful with.
The 1/4 tube will determine the width for you. if it doesn't fit... grind it.

I'll be watching for the answers to this one as I am about to make a 3/4" parrot today.

Some have done this and it looks schmick :handgestures-thumbupleft:

We all love copper porn here :D

There are so many great builds here, that you may need to make a couple just to try out the different methods :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I think 3/4 might be a bit small for your parrot. I made mine out of 7/8 and I would not want to go any smaller.

I've had a thought on the parrot. I like the idea of the 3/4 cos the alcometer fits in it nice and stays upright so what if I drilled some holes in the 3/4(perferate it) top to bottom all the way around then have that inside the 1 inch so ya alcometer stays straight, no hydraulic effect and the 3/4 would take some of the volume out of the parrot. What do you guys think of that.

Sounds like a cunning plan ,the materials used in a parrot is fuck all .Give it a go

Also RE your PC ,how long will it be ? I'm about to make mine so curious on this one

Interested to know how the 3/4" will take volume out of the parrot.

Your alc will float straight anyways mate, unless it came from a chinese sweatshop. :))

EDIT - hold on, think I get what u mean... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hope this helps to explain my idea. When I say it will decrease the volume of the parrot I mean as the 3/4 pipe itself will have some volume that it will remove in liquid volume as opposed to having just a 1" pipe alone. Hope I've explained it ok. Feel free to tell me I'm making something more complicated then necessary.

Yeah, thats what I thought you meant.

Looks cool, I say why the fuck not. :handgestures-thumbupleft: BUT... whether your alc floats in 3/4" or 3" pipe, it'll float dead-straight. If not, your parrot is on the piss. :))

Think I may have been trying to reinvent the wheel there.

Not necessarily. My alco meter tends to stick to the side of my test tube and I find it a tax to keep it level so it floats rather than "sticks"

Your design may well just keep the thing floating while the extra external flow stops the hydrolic effect .If you don't build it ,I might .Go for it

And you'll never know if it works as intended (no hydraulic effect) unless you compare it alongside a 1" parrot with the same alcometer. Probably no need to do it during a run, maybe just pour some neutral through them both.

I guess I could make it as a drop in item that just sits in the parrot with so sort of spacer ring around it to center it in the 1" so if it's no good I'll take it out.

Top idea mate. That way you can compare the two.
