If you make a removable plate tree without SG's then you could easily convert the same section of pipe over to a packed section and vice versa if you wanted to.

equipment: Eve - 4" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (sieve plates), 330 mm packed section on a keg boiler with 2 x 2000 W elements.
Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

As far as performance for producing neutrals would anyone like to comment on packed 600mm section over 5 plates in the 600mm section.

Not sure what that reflux ratio is about but just putting the numbers in and leaving the ratio a 1:1 comes out at 7 theoretical plates. Might be the way to go with packed section.

Yeah I've found having crushed between 10 mm & 15 mm is ok, much prefer scrubbers or structured packing than scoria.... I'm really not a fan of the shit :handgestures-thumbdown:

Is this personal preference or have you found a specific problem with it?

Asking because I am going to use volcanic rock in a 500mm packed section.

Personal preference DBV, I found the scoria problematic for channelling.. but that was in a 6" rig and am going to copper mesh now

+1 Mac - I'm also concerned with how much heat those rocks can hold too. An hour into a run with these in my packed section and it's blisteringly hot and rumbling - you can hear the rocks moving quite a bit.

I think copper mesh at some point is a must for me as an upgrade.

Really happy with the results but these rocks are just a little clunky for me.

I ordered 4 rolls of copper mesh packing from 5star looks good to me just need to clean the production process oil off and pack it into 400 mm section . Very interested in what the results will be. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

It will be interesting how it performs with blockhead but I reckon you are going to be quite happy with the results, just don't run It too fast :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi there, just digging through your old thread, love your work here mate, well done.
I'm getting everything together to finally build my own, would love to get some valves like you have on the bottom of your parrot, would you happen to know where I could get a hold of them, can't seem to find them anywhere?

Cheers!

That would be a stainless needle valve by the looks of it (maybe even a high pressure depending on where he works)
Small ball valve would be better, less turns to open it when draining it.
