There are pros and cons for both but I do really think the pros for electric are more abundant and I think I will be going that way in the future :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Gas is quick and easy .... but so are flames leaping up the side of your still ....Despite the rising cost of electricity ....Gas :handgestures-thumbdown:

And yeah ..I do strip on gas but its always a nervous experience .That's only because I don't have a large electric element ATM

You only need 2400w to run it effectively, the other 2400w is for heat up only. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yep I have both gas is faster and more fun coz I am a pyromaniac..
Electricity works out cheaper in the long run.
I see your comments in Macs Fsd element thread. Shipping from oz is not too bad, if you decide to go that way...

But a warning if you a checking out elements on trademe and see those 2200w elements sold by kuzmatic and kegresources. They are the "improved"version of the notorious kegking elements. There is a thread or 3 on most brewing forums about the kegking elements blowing up.

I only have 1500w in my boiler and its only good for reflux/pot stilling its not enough power to keep a perforated plate loaded.

Another way to think about it is it's going to tell you sooner that you have a mass leak :laughing-rolling:

Seriously though I have had vapour leaks and at one point had liquid alc running down the side of my LM/VM combo and I have never had anything ignite. Probably just luck :?

How about if you are running gas and you develop a leak and for some stupid reason you have left your still, now the vapours build up to a dangerous level until they crawl across the floor and find an ignition source on the other side of your shed. Now there is an even bigger KABOOM. Worst case scenario but makes me feel better about running gas :teasing-neener:

Geez,

Ethanol vapours will not sink. They rise, lighter in gas form than air. If outside no issue...if inside and ventilation no issues.

There are as many concerns with electric...know how to do a circuit test? have a multi meter ? check connections prior to use?

Dam sure I do as a gas runner including regular service/cleaning/testing of the three ring burner/regulators. Does the same rigor apply to electric...doubtful!

Ok defensive pitch concluded...

simply put what we do is high risk the only defense is rigor around our processes... check and re check, upgrade with a multi meter or braided SS line...do the most not the least!
