Bubblers - build problems and fixes

Postby dogbreath vodka » Sun Aug 18, 2013 12:34 pm

Hey Gents
Thought we might benefit from a thread dedicated to problems and fixes on our bubblers.
Things we wish we knew but didn't.

This isn't a discussion thread -
More of a research tool for those wanting to avoid issues and find fixes.

Firstly if you have a problem and want to find an answer you should look here and ask on the Bubbler Chat thread.
That is here.

viewtopic.php?f=36&t=637

If everyone that has built a bubbler and found/fixed issues contributes it will be great for those wanting to build their own.

Please keep it short and to the point.
That way there isn't pages of discussion or questions.

So only problems and fixes please.

If you want a specific answer PM the poster of the fix or go to the Bubbler Chat thread.

Couple I had.

Easy Flange too thin
Found one of my easy flange joins too thin to tighten up so it leaked.
Used two flat gaskets to fix it.

Easy Flange too thick
Hammered the bevel on the edge more.

Bubble plate ran dry entire distilling run.
Found that the plate was just off flat and so it didn't' seal properly
Hammered carefully to make it flat.

Bottom plate not loading correctly
Reseated the plates and soldered in some holes too close to the edge.
Check column is vertical plumb when setting up for run.

Pooling in bottom of sight glasses
Had a small lip at the junction between column and sight glass housing.
Get the file out and remove material till completely flush.
This would seem obvious, but I'd overlooked in my construction.
