Out With the Old & Into the New. bubbler build.

Postby MacStill » Fri Jul 15, 2011 10:38 am

After my monumental stuff up yesterday I've cut up my old bubbler on the drop saw, so now I'm piecing together everything for my new one.

It'll be the same concept with a few little twists, 5 perforated plates (cuz I already have them) 3 sight glasses & 4" keg/boiler connection, I'm going to try and use as much of the old one to build this one without having to fork out any money on parts for it, and use up some of the surplus materials I have out in the shed.

Pics to follow soon.

Cheers.

Too late :?

VM now has about 800mm less column :o

Got the new reflux condenser sorted, it's a drop in shotgun style now.

It hurt chopping up the VM but I need my bubbler badly seeing I got 120L UJSM & 12OL rum ready to run.

righto

how would a 3" version of this go ?
using 2" for the liebig

thinking perforated plates / 1/2 down comers and J trap

does the deflag sit just below the T (offtake)

do you back off cooling to the delfag to allow vapor to reach the liebig (my simple understanding of operation)

Mac can you give me some measurements... !!! :laughing-rolling:

The 3" rig I built ran great, not as quick as a 4" but still great :handgestures-thumbupleft:

In my builds I've stuck with 4" spaces between everything, so the reflux condenser is 4" above the top plate and 4" below the take off.

Yep you back off coolant until you get a good take off rate while maintaining stable temps.

They're ok but a few of us have started using 1/2 needle valves for precise control on our reflux condensers :handgestures-thumbupleft:

how precise does the water flow need to be?

is control needed more to the Deflag ? or both ?
