3" bubbler primitive build

Postby Smbjk » Wed Oct 16, 2013 3:05 pm

Hey guys :greetings-waveyellow:

After lots of holiday research I'm going to build my bubbler :D It's going to be a slow and steady wins the race type of build. I also hope this build will give some confidence to those who only have the basic tools. I have a few g clamps, a angle grinder, a power drill and some gas. Not to mention the usual shit you gather over time.

Well today I built my rc. I annealed some copper on my 3 ring burner to fabricate my end plates, spun them on my drill with help of the angle grinder got them pretty cylindrical. Slodered the rc as per mac's shotgun tutorial ^:)^ ^:)^ Thanks mac that tutorial was great and guess what... no leaks :D :D :D

Gave it a small clean up so it looks good for the photo's :D . Will solder a flange on when I get some 1/4 inch pipe. So please all feel free to give me any pointers or criticism as I respect all your advise :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Nice work mate I'll be watching for tips.

I hand filed my disc's after cutting them out with snips. :angry-banghead: Your idea much better.

Tried that but just found it easier to thread them on a bolt the same size as your plate tree rod screw a nut on to hold in place, g clamp the drill to the bench, turn on then hit them with the angle grinder :handgestures-thumbupleft: All the guys on the forum helped me with that bit of priceless info :laughing-rolling:

Looks nice... You don't have any lip to roll for the easy flange though?

From what I gathered from macs shotgun tutorial he didn't do that and I'm pretty sure he doesn't do that any more. Well I hope so :pray: 8-}

where is the thread of how to attach a flange without doing it the easy flange way?
in the tutorial mac says he doesn't wanna go in to it coz it will detract from the tutorial

sorry for the OP, i just wanna iron out all the details of my plan too :oops:

From what I gather you just need to make sure that it is on a very flat surface and solder the inner part of the flange and it should be fine or at least I think so 8-}

That's how I read it too.

I must say though ,I've flattened some 1/4" and some 3/8" .When compared to a genuine 4" ferrule, one's to big and one's to small.
I recon 5/16" would be perfect but fuck that shits dear.

So since Mac recons 1/4" flattened works then who are we to argue. :handgestures-thumbupleft: Think he might have built a few

1/4" works fine for easy flanges, the standard tri clamp seals will work quite well with these too ;-)

No need to be sorry, this type of info is welcomed in tech & build threads as it's helpful for those who are researching to do their own :handgestures-thumbupleft:
