The Hoochinator!!

Postby Frothwizard » Mon Dec 16, 2013 7:58 pm

Well I've finally been given the tools to become a man....and here they are!!

It's probably worth noting that the picture of the two gaskets is there because I can't work out if I'm meant to do something with them or they are spares...from what I can tell, every other clamp already has a gasket.

Anyways...as you were.

As am I. I'm SERIOUSLY hoping that my TPW has finished by Thursday. I am doing a 72 hour week at work which finishes Monday morning and I only have Thursday day / night to do all my runs to make Christmas presents for folks.

The TPW has been going for well over 2 weeks now and is STILL ticking along. I'm hoping 3 more days and it'll be finally over so I can run it.

I'll definitely have a video up when that happens!!

On a side note, everything you've ever read or heard about these stills pales in comparison to seeing it in person. Not only is the finish absolutely perfect and shiny, but the attention to detail of the machined parts is just superb. This can be seen in the way all the pieces fit snugly together from sight glass tees and gaskets to the downcomers and bubble caps in the bubblecap plate.

It's a beautiful thing to put together let alone behold.

So I couldn't sleep cause I was too excited about running this baby.

DESPITE not having the necessary parts to hook up the cooling systems on it, I decided to give it a run anyway and just let the coldness of the shed condense as much as possible before I'd shut it off. I just wanted to test all the seals were tight anyhow.

So I poured in a few litres of fores/heads I'd been saving for lighter fluid and topped it up with water to about 20L. After it had come up to temp the 2nd and 4th plate were bubbling like crazy and the 1st and 3rd were average. I collected just enough to fill up my measuring cylinder and then turned it off.

Came out at exactly 90% with no forced reflux to speak of although it was a very yellow colour. However I thought this may be a result of the first run through cleaning out whatever residue may have been hanging around.

No cracks or leaks evident. I'm seriously in love with the parrot design as it makes changing jars and collecting a dream.

All in all a success.

DON'T WORRY ZAK!!! I'll be running that TPW in a few days and you'll have your video!!!

Good to see your happy mate.... :-D

Credit where credit is due. You're more than welcome. Those words were earned!!! Even the wrapping of the individual pieces for shipping was carefully thought out to maximize space and shipping. You two definitely have the whole experience down to an art.

I'm running it right now...at 3:18am....I decided to put my CFW back through cause I got the cuts wrong when I put it through the pot.

Started off at 94% but has slowly dropped to about 80 after the 20th jar of 200ml.

I think I need a bigger cooling tank....200L is getting a bit too warm for my liking.

Also....don't tell Zak I ran it without taking a video...I'll do it soon...

They really are. I want to run a bunch more today, but it's 41 in the shed and the water from my run this morning has only cooled of 2 degrees, still sitting at 38...which isn't gonna last for a run....might have to so the ole barrel switcharoo with a few bags of ice from the servo.
