I'm going as fast as I can!

How far into the cup should the downcomer sit? And I'm thinking that I want a little hole in the side of the cup, at the bottom, to let them drain at the end of the run? Or am I missing something?

Cheers for the kind words guys. Hopefully finish this first plate this arvo :)

Make a sure you leave plenty of gap, better to have a bit more than too little. A down comer than is not letting the excess liquid off the plate above it fast enough is something you don't want. I think from memory my downcomers sat about 5mm from the bottom of the cup, your cups look pretty deep so maybe more wouldn't hurt.
The little drain hole in the cup is personal choice I think. None of the older builds Ive seen had them, It seems to be a idea that has popped up in more resent times. Personal option is that they could cause more problems than they solve if the hole was to big.

Cheers SBB. I'll try a 7 or 8mm gap... Or I'll give DBV a yell and ask him what he's done in Steampunk 2...

As for the hole in the bottom, there's currently a pinhole or 2 in the solder on the bottom, that might have to do :)

Doing a nice job Zak... we're just starved of copper builds these days so re living the feeling through your fine efforts!

I "V' cut the tube ends into downcomer caps.. only 5mm wide bout 2 -3mm high x 2 ...once it gets past surface tension fluid lock issues(still start up where there's no pressure or volume) it will flow nicely.

No fan of the pin hole method slow to drain, blow past etc but your call.

Call me slow but Ive just realized Agrajag is a 6 incher and not 4 inch. Id be taking some extra care to get those down comers right, flooded plates are the last thing you want.

While Mac's gear looks damn sexy, and are proven performers out of the box, I can't justify spending $2k on a still when with a bit of luck and a few (or a lot of) hours will build me something similar. I will be flying the FSD flag high with the clamps etc and elements though, don't worry :)

Thanks for the kind words guys.

people also build for the hobby- spending hours and creating something by hand is a great way to spend time. then if you use what you have built to make something else, its great!

Very very slowly mate... Haven't put flame to copper for ages. Too busy with work/kid (+.5)/house etc

It'll happen :) got a big couple of weeks of work coming up, I think I'll bite the bullet and buy all of the FSD gear I need. That should motivate me :)
