thanks Mcstill. Good to have some no bs feedback and help when needed.

I think I'll try and control myself to start with and at least get to know my new toys first to learn a bit more about the art, work up a few more brownie points with the mrs then maybe have a crack at one of these plated babies.

Todays progress was a little slow having so much else to do but it's getting there.

Here's the column with the holes for the sight glasses cut, marked, measured and remeasured then go for it :? feels kinda weird cutting big holes in $250 worth of pipe

Image

So now it's into getting all the "Fester Flanges" soldered in place, this is a bit tricky and there's a few ways to go about this.... I chose this time to mount them through the column and not flush with the face, either way is still very time consuming and you want to get it right.

First one is on.

Image

Once I got the second ferule on I had to make a bit of a bush jig to get them all to line up straight and flush with each other.... bit of angle, some tie wire and a stick inside the column works.... is that artisan or what?

Well all the sight glasses are ready to be fitted, turned out ok.... reasonably happy :)

Image

Now I've fitted the shotgun condenser as a product cooler, got the other ferules and tri clams on, the sight glasses are cut and ready to fit but I wont put them in until the job is actually finished..... Have to shorten the product condenser a little at the bottom.

Image

Tomorrow I'll cap the top of the still and start the plumbing..... any luck and she'll be ready for a cleaning run

How do you get the plate tree past if the ferrules intrude into the column?

I always wondered why people bothered cutting the curves in until i figured that bit...

Changed my mind on this build, the tree is soldered in and permanent ;)

All the others I've done have flush mounted peepers but I've never had to remove the tree for any reason.

Too many variables to say, you've got a pretty good idea of the materials needed if you look carefully at what I've posted ;)

Factor in a few rolls of solder, flux, mapp or oxy, and other consumables...... it aint cheap :?

Shit mate, you can't be serious,it's a bloody lethal weapon  looks the ducks guts though.Looks like I got hold of some clean 44's will know tomorrow. My 120l of wash is burping away nicely and all things being equal should be ready for my maiden voyage on Saturday.Sitting on a constant 24-25 degrees.Do I have 2 give it a stir occasionally?

No need to stir it, it'll do it's thing ;)

I'll be hanging onto this build for a while, it's been a pretty expensive build compared to the other bubblers I've built and I reckon it's going to run awesome.

Those 44's will be heavy by the time I get em

All setup and waiting for tomorrows vinegar run, check for leaks etc etc......

Once the inside is nice and clean I'll file off some of the solder joins, give her a good polish & a coat of clear

Total hours spent on this build was 29  The parts bill was pretty frightening too :?

Time for a pre run celebration

Vinegar cleaning run went without a hitch today, everything was perfect, not a leak anywhere.........

Will be putting some UJSM through it over the next couple of days, got a real good feeling about this rig.
