Mcstill,

how much power are you driving this with?

Can you put the column into 100% reflux with that 4" shotgun dephlag?

Cheers

I've found 3600w to be great for my rig, also read Olddog's comments on HD that he reckons 2400w is perfect..... mine loves a bit extra thrown at it, but will run "OK" at 2400w.

My electric boiler has a 3600w & 2400w set of elements, I've tried both ;)

Yep full reflux is no problem at all, even with 3600w, I'm using the same principle as "hillbilly stills" defagglemataterer (reflux condenser  )

With the drop in dephlegmater and side takeoff, that looks like a copy of Olddogs Flute Mk11.

Looks really good. Any thing worth building takes time

did you calculate the diameter and plate spacings, or was it done by rule of thunB.

After building 10 or so of these things I came up with my own formular that works in my experiences, pretty sure the exact details are contained within this thread.

I think Draino (or someone else) came up with a PDF template for them as well ;)

Cheers.

I cant fucking remember the hole size and spacings & gave you a bum steer that the details were in this thread :laughing-rolling:

SBB knows, so should draino :teasing-neener:

1.5 mm holes arranged in a grid pattern 5mm apart from memory.

Yeap 1.5mm holes I have a heap of broken bits lying around :)
I did buy a cobolt drill bit as I am making perf plates with centre downdrops to use a reflux centring ring on my 3" VM and have not broken it yet, so well worth the extra couple of dollars.

I'm kicking myself for not dropping in while I was in Perth, time, money & health issues got the better of me. I'm sure I would have one hand always in my pocket while being in your shed, the pocket with a big hole in it, I would be in my element I'm sure.

And I believe there are many more people that love your work and craftsmanship than you realise.

What a trip! Like a time machine, this thread is. Exactly what got me involved! Am I doing something wrong, no pics?

Nice take on a classic still Mc.
I'm tipping 90 plus abv from a lowly 10% wash, on an easy run.
And those kick ass plates are a lot of work. Makes one wonder if single bubble caps are an easier road to travel. But they just dont cut the mustard like seive plates.
I gotta admit, its nice when a still tells you whats going on, rather than waiting for it to ask a question (aka, bubble caps)
And its nice to think that a still will make better stuff at home than what they can in "caruba", where ever the F that is.

Sorry, in time i will sober up.

Ah EG the caps do tell you, just in a different way ;-)

I have no desire to go back to perfs, caps rock and are far easier to build for the same results in the bottle :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Both styles have pro's and cons, I reckon the caps are just in front though... "for me"
