Thegoose's 3" bubbler

Postby thegoose » Tue Mar 18, 2014 10:57 pm

Hi All
Firstly I would like to thank all that have shared their knowledge and given me the confidence to undertake my own bubbler build. My plan is to build a modular 3" perf plate bubbler (4 modules) and also add a packed section of 550 mm for neutrals. I have access to a lathe and tig welding equipment some of the time, having this equipment is a luxury although I am looking forward to the challenge of using soft solder as well. I have started fabricating the condensers out of stainless, the modules and packed section will be made of copper. I have received a bunch of bits from FSD thanks Mac and have some holidays so this is it.
This is the start I have made on the RC the body was machined from one solid piece of 90mm bar....I have the swarf burns to prove it :scared-eek: and the start of the first weld on the end plate cheers

All welded together and cleaned up with no leaks soaked it in shower power really cleaned up the welds and heat discolouration from the welding, welded 3\8 bsp fittings on instead of 1\2" :angry-banghead: but have some adapters that will work for the valve and hoses.... One task down tonight is bushy's pipe joining tutorial for the modules.

Last night got out the drawing tools and followed Bushy's instructions on pipe joining for the modules worked through it all slowly with the help of a couple of stubs knocked out a template for the modules big day ahead of cutting out and soldering I have bought some 3% lead free silver soft solder, comweld 965 and a bernzomatic propane torch. Hoping for some good progress with the modules today, I am going for 3" sightglasses as I love the look of newbi's 4" rig

Marked up the pipe with the template and cut them out with the jig saw with a fine metal blade then lapped them against some 3" pipe wrapped with 240 wet and dry for a good fit

Nice work goose :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Is there enough clearance to get a tri clamp on the sight glass once you have clamped the modules together? It looks pretty close and a bit hard to tell from the pic, but I hope I'm just seeing things cos they looking bloody well done...
