Dave's bubbler build

Postby davecuds » Tue May 06, 2014 9:13 pm

Howdy howdy,
I've been keeping this build a bit quiet because to be honest i expected to fail, having no previous experience in soldering. Anyway, its at the point of no return so i thought i'd add a few photos to show you how its going.
Any thoughts, advice or criticism is welcomed....but be gentle there is a lot of blood, sweat and tears gone into this already :)

I bought some 4" some weeks back just because it was cheap. $30 bucks for about a 1 1/2 meters which also included a good length of 1". I started out with the flanged sections and when i got confident with the soldering i moved onto the RC. The RC went surprisingly well and i was extremely happy it had no leaks...well no water leaks anyway, guess we'll see if any vapor gets out :D

I've been pretty lucky to have a lot of time off and access to the old mans shed. Some antique stuff in there but also a lot of tools i couldn't have done with out. So far it has taken about a week. Tomorrow i will drill the holes and make some flange rings for the 4" sight glasses. If there is enough time i will make a start on the 2" shotgun condenser

Anyway, enough flabbering. They are pretty ordinary pics but here goes

I was planning on using perf plates simply because the caps look a bit fiddly. However the thought of drilling 1000+ holes has me thinking some more :))
Im putting that job off until last

Cheers Yummy,
Say, have u got a link to your rum recipe or is that a closely guarded secret? I was thinking of popping her cherry with a rum run.

Looks the goods to me...well done bloke...sense of achievement is a nice thing to have.

Drilling...well mp3 or CD racked up, a light drill well supported, lube, comfy chair, a few small clamps and your away done in a day or less.

4 inch peepers always leave me feelin like a roo caught in headlights.
Sensational looking work Dave. Well done
The only thing I will say is make sure you hammer the easy flanges for the sight glasses nice and flat. Really flat, because theres not a lot of room in there for the glass.
Look forward to some more photos. Maybe with a decent camera ;-)

Looking good bud. Keep up the good work.

Drilling the plates does suck, but nothing a few drinks can't fix. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Managed to get the PC done today and pretty stoked with the results. Haven't tested for leaks yet so fingers crossed tomorrow!
Its 600mm long with 3/4" inside tubes. Might me a tad long but better safe than sorry i guess, plus i may use it for stripping runs...not sure yet.

Anyway, few more pics

Getting close to completion now. Just need to solder the flanges for the sight glasses and i'm done....i think.
Mac you can expect an order from me soon :)

Last few days have be good. Everything running smoothly and less cursing. Drilling the plates was painful but over now, hopefully. I snapped my 1.5mm drill bits on the first plate! I found a pack of 2mm drills bits so i used those instead....i will murder anyone who says i need to redo them! :) Im not sure if it works this way but i figured 300 holes at 1.5mm is equivalent to 225 holes at 2mm. I tried counting my holes a few times but always got lost somewhere towards the end but i think it's around the 200 mark which i hope is ok.

Anyway, here are a few more pics.
Cheers

2 more :)

Has anyone got some tips for cleaning inside the T where they join. Hard to get a file in there. I was poking around with a dremel but hard to control it in those tricky to reach places
